Guest Guest Posted January 30, 2006 Looks very other-worldly! It is much better viewed large, so the streams coming out of the stacks are detailed...fascinating! Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 5, 2006 Bob, I'm surprised that's just 8seconds. I would have suspected much longer from the plumes. I deduce it must have been blowing. I like the composition, of course, and the vague unreality of the full shot. Most of all, I like many small details like the lights, the silhouette of the handling veichles to the right, and the "stars" down to the left. These are most interesting since there are no stars in the sky... like the industrial operations had poisoned them, and pulled them down... Link to comment
jstyles 0 Posted February 7, 2006 There's a factory near Albany I drive past often on the way back from PDX, in the middle of the night when the fog is deep and the air is cold, and it just looks amazing, but I'm always too desperate to get home to stop and take a photo. This is a lot like what would hope to capture there, but I'm sure I would struggle to catch it so well. I've also been admiring Bond Blackwell's factory shots lately, and am a bit of a factory-shot fan actually. They're so other-worldly and spooky and environmentally problematic, and yet they're chugging away all the time behind the scenes (just not in MY backyard!) so we can enjoy our daily lives. Just wondering, did you take some faster exposures of this? I wondered if the plumes might fade more seamlessly with the night with a faster shutter, but it's probably also a jpeg conversion issue. Very nice shot. Link to comment
