I like the simplicity of the composition. Or better, its apparent elemental feeling. What strikes me in this image is the way in which, once I think I've "seen" it, something else comes up for attention, call it the texture of the sand, the infinite small ripples of the ridge, the way the shadow creeps into the sunlit part.

In short, it's extremely dynamic to look at, although simple in its shapes: another very good desert shot of yours.

Incidentally, I'm considering a trip to Libya: have you been in the SW of the country?

salvatore, thanks. regarding the southwest of libya,

called the fezzan, i was there twice. it is probably the most rewarding desert for the photographer. you have rocky mountains mixed with sand, you have vast dune fields (ergs), you have the small lakes in the midth, simply fantastic. i can only recommend to go there, though burocracy in libya is somewhat tedious

Dieter, thanks.

Indeed, the mix of rocks, lakes and dunes was inspiring. It will have to be a short trip since we've a window for ~9 days at the end of February. I was considering a trek, possibly on foot. Given the difficulties to get a visa I fear I'll need an agent to take care of that and maybe support the trek. Any good hints? I'll be delighted to receive reccomandations.

salvatore, you want to organize this on a private basis? it is possible, but quite cumbersome, simpler is to join a group. there are many travel agencies organizing such treks. i did all my six trips to the sahara with allibert, a french agency, but there is also club aventure and terre aventure, and there are certainly also italian agencies. they take care of nearly all formalities. the number of participants usually vary between 5 and 15. the last time we were only by four. if you do a trek, then you cover only a small area, especially if you go only for one week. i personally prefer to go by 4x4 and do some hiking in between, but that is a question of personal taste. for more specific matters please do not hesitate to ask

Dieter, thanks again. I have always traveled independently, but this time -for time shortage- I was already considering Allibert. If I eventually go, I'll contact you privately. If not now, your pictures have anyhow inspired me to go back to the desert, so it will happen in the not-so-far future.

This is an incredibly beautiful image! It is a wonderful mix of simple and complex, as Salvatore said. The angles and lines, shadings and textures...it's an awesome capture!
