trygve1 0 Posted January 29, 2006 Its a nice portrait. But a more interesting and simple background without te statue and the lamp would improve it a lot. Link to comment

garth_herrick 0 Posted February 19, 2006 Frank, speaking as an artist and portrait painter, your portrait of Hanna is perfect and lovely as it is, and I completely disagree with Martin about the background question. You have a dynamic and strong composition. I appreciate the implied depth of space accentuated by the statue, and justifying the intimate close-up positioning and cropping of Hanna. The lamp as an echo to Hanna's head, implies compositional motion as well, adding interest. I think this portrait would be too static and might lack some of it's compelling emotional depth without your included background subtext. I love the color relationships and affinities too. The intense color works beautifully with the intense expression. Well done! Garth Link to comment
