The Shisha Pangma (left) is one of the fourteen eight thousand Meter

high peaks of the Himalayas. The summit can be seen from the

Kathmandu valley. From Tibet side it is easy to reach close to the

foot of the mountain. I appreciate your feedback. Karl

Apart from the dream location, this shot has two great features, both well connected with your use of the panoramic format.

The first are the two "hills" to the left, purplish, and to the right, golden. They are extremely effective in framing the scene like indeed on a scene of a theather. They prevent our eye to leave, and they gently lead our attention to the mountains. I will come back later to the fact the latters -alas- need attention.

The second great feature is the layering of colours, from the warm tones of the land, and even a patch of green to the right slopes of the foreground "hill", to the shadows, the purple, and eventually the white where sky and land become one. This is interesting and gradual, and makes the shot.

Now, I usually dislike large expanses of sky above mountains. Here, the hills leading the eye to the mountain seem to compensate the effect of the large sky which detracts from their stately appearence. In general, white clouds which recall the colours of the mountains do the trick in compensating for the large empty sky, and this seems to have worked here...

...even though I keep on wondering what it would have looked like with even more of this interesting layered foreground. Maybe it was either too dull or too bright to have kept the mountain stately enough?

I find your ratings disturbing. I do not post below average photos. You give never an explanation for your low rating. So I must guess why you do this. Perhaps I gave you some time ago a bad rating without explanation. I do not do this anymore. Is this your way to get justice? Or do you make this to upgrade your own photos? Or are you looking for nudes or sun-sets and you are disappointed when you see something different? If you have some substantial comments please write it. Otherwise I think you need help. All the best. Karl

Sorry I had first to express my anger. Thanks Salvatore for your interesting thoughts about this panorama. Fact is, that I did not think much about the earth - sky proportion when I shot the two photos for this panorama. It is more about instinct and I like it the way it is. You should see the 60 cm print with all the nuances and the details. This file has less than 1 % of the size of the original scan.

I am afraid I do not agree with Salvatore regarding the large sky above the mountains, and in this case, since there is a 8 thousand peak... the idea is even better, because no matter how high the peak is... there is still plenty of sky above us... Love it.

I see some noise/artifacts... it looks strange... maybe jpg conversion?

Hi Charo, this photo is scanned from two photo prints. The exposure of the two photos was not the same. I had to adjust the colour mix manually to have a continuity throughout the panorama. There might be some reddish artefacts resulting from this adjustment which I can not see, as my eyes do not recognize some red tones. I would need somebody to help me to remove them. Thanks for reminding me. Karl

Charo, your comment is an interesting one... I might consider making an exception to my principles that you do not need too much sky, provided I get an 8000+ in the shot.

Karl, I get those 3/3 all the times... it is not worth your annoyment. Let's be upbeat when comparing the possibility to see these places with the frustration with which this poor guy(s) have to define "originality" in their daily lives!

I like this better than many of your other shots because the horizon is so low...it gives it a feeling of vastness and immense size. Well done!
