kslonaker 0 Posted January 22, 2006 My concept here was that some people tend to think of animals as "disposable". Get a free, cute little kitten and when she is no longer a baby and goes into heat, drop her off in the country. Don't worry about her being sheltered and fed; just go get another kitten and don't give the first one another thought. NOTE: no kitties were harmed in the making of this composition! Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Kim, I love this one. The kitty seems to come almost organically from this background, more so than is some of the others. The half-closed eye adds a moving, almost humanizing touch, especially to the idea that these guys are living, feeling beings. Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted January 22, 2006 I love it as well, and is,nt your statement true.I have just acquired another two cats that were dumped for exactly the reason you said.Let the animals inherit the earth for most people don,t deserve it. Link to comment
raphaellopez 0 Posted January 23, 2006 This is a very good photo-montage. I like how the cat slowly comes out of the sand. Great Job Kim. Link to comment
sharon jackson 0 Posted January 23, 2006 Very artistic and original. I too agree with your comments. Every animal I have is a drop off because of someone elses irresponsibility. They won't have them fixed so they dump them out to either be run over or starve to death or be killed by larger animals. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 23, 2006 It's frustrating when people don't care about animals. You have to wonder how much they really care about humans, too. Link to comment
cjrupp 0 Posted January 23, 2006 I like this Kim and the thought that produced it. I couldnt agree more. Link to comment

alexguerra 0 Posted January 23, 2006 This is an excellent piece of thought provoking work. The concept and execution are outstanding. I have some contacts among animal protection associations and I believe this image could really be used to make a strong poster against this sad behaviour that people keep having. I would be very happy if you would allow me to propose your image as a material for them to be eventually used in some campaign. I cheer you for bringing up this important problem so effectively. Best regards, Alex Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 24, 2006 Certainly, Alex, if this could help in any way. Thanks for the positive feedback on this one! Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks to all of you. I may have to pursue this concept and come up with some more images. Link to comment
kleintje 0 Posted January 25, 2006 You couldn't have made a better statement than you did here. I worked for a while in a project for sterilising stray cats in a village. When we started we never could have imagined how big the problem really was. Warming thought though was the number of people actually caring for these poor creatures who were left behind. kslonaker 0 Posted January 25, 2006 I couldn't get over how many animals down here (S Texas) are abandoned and left to roam as strays. I thought it was bad where I came from (Canada), but it seems to be a lot worse here. At least there are groups trying to combat the ignorance of the people who value their cars more than their animals! Link to comment
kleintje 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Kim, true it is sometimes depressing to see how people treat animals like they're just an object you play with and throw away when you're tired of it, and not like the living being they are. But I'm happy to see that there are also people, like you, who do care for these animals and give them a new home or some food and shelter. Link to comment
ralu_michael 0 Posted January 25, 2006 It's a good ideea but I thing it would have been more suggestive if it had been mod insted of rack..........my suggestion... Link to comment
armindo_lopes 1 Posted January 25, 2006 I like both the great work you have done and your message. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted January 26, 2006 A bit scary, Kim, but also conveys the liveliness of the cat that is emerging from the stony ground. The half-closed eye seems to be because of the effort. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 27, 2006 The half-closed eye is because this shot of the cat was when she was laying on a chair - I turned the image around to use in this composition. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Hi Kim, I think you are doing a wonderful job of expressing this abstract concept and I admire your technical advances in PS. . . this one is my favorite primarily because I think the partially closed eye depicts a stressful state. . . Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 29, 2006 This one is my favorite, too...but to me, the expression looks kind of mischievous, like he was considering his plan of attack. We've had (or still have) lots of cats that just moved in off the street. They just show up one day, and won't leave. What's a person to do, except buy more cat food? Link to comment
