male cardinal

i wanted a close up of this bad boy,but he wouldn,t come down to feed

so i took this with a 70-200 at about twenty feet away.

Joe, you got the bad boys colors perfectly but you may want to jack up the focus a bit. The branches make for a nice background but maybe experiment with moving the cardinal into one of the "rule of thirds" quadrants.

Joe, the rule of thirds puts the subject of the photo at or near any of the intersecting grid lines if you divided the image into thirds. Here is an example of what I am talking about. The rule is made to be broken but it is effective in drawing the viewers attention.

so basicly the rule calls for the subject to be off center. correct?

Joe, that is basically correct. Most often, not always, you want the main subject not to be centered.
