THEY don't like ANYTHING I say / think or shoot. heheheeee. I thought the picture speaks to that a bit. Funny thing about art - the you know what that stinks doesn't last long - the good stuff ends up in galleries, museums and private collections.

So actually - real art isn't all that easy to access. Much of it would shock most ordinary people. On the other hand - the more important, powerful, rich, intelligent aficianados would more likely be shocked by much of what ordinary people call art.

isn't that funny?

thanks for that.

look - did you know Ansel Adams told his father that what interested him most were the little details in the environment around him? that photographing rocks was just absolutely the most interesting thing he could think of? lots of people scoffed.

the bottom line with Art with a capital A is time and agreement over time, that something (*art) is good.

means: dig something as art today will you dig it tomorrow? will others also dig it and will they also dig it tomorrow?

now ask yourself: would I frame this hallmark moment and put it on my wall and truly ENJOY LOOKING AT IT for the rest of my life? will I enjoy looking at a hallmark card for the next TWO WEEKS? then go ahead and try it. see how long before you're bored with it. ask friends and family the same question - do you dig it? ask them every-time they see it - everyday. (don't tell them you shot it - they'll not want to hurt your feelings)

but check out all the people online selling reproductions of famous artworks - some have the most elaborate printed brochures you've ever seen. amazing. and look at the prices for what are essentially nothing more than fancy posters. even more amazing. but you know what? odds are you won't get too tired too soon of looking at a Van Gogh.

wonder why? all he did was paint simple little scenes...uh, with a little different point of view.

So there is something that cannot be defined by simplistic rules and moronic perfectionism about art - it is that "je ne sais quoi" = something special that cannot be defined.

I've been a photographer for 38 years. I continue to explore and experiment. There is not a perfect end product in any type of art. but there do seem to be the occasional special moments - something still photography seems particularly well suited to give us - moments where we see more than simple beauty.

Picasso said art is the lie that helps us see the truth. Pablo also fell in love with photography. I wonder why?

Always an interesting subject - artwork and viewer. It raises questions about which is the more important world: that of the bright exciting glamorous eternally youthful image or that of the humdrum colourless aging reality that surrounds it? ... Are we more inclined to dismiss the image as shallow artifice or the reality as unforgivably boring? ... Which world depends more on the other? ... Which inhabits more of our dreams? ... Does the image become in some way more real to us than the life outside (consider especially the manipulative power of TV)? ... Are we image-addicts looking for the next fix?

Congratulations on a thought-provoking shot, nicely executed,

Jonathan

This is wonderful. The concept has been done in the past but not with the wonderful sense of composition that you brought to it. This type of image is great fun as well as great art. Very well done.

Of the handful of images I've posted on p.net, this image probably best represents how I see now - after 38 years of being photographer. I'm always looking for dimensions in my work now. Layers if you will. So thanks to all who see beyond one dimensional sunsets and flowers and nekked chicks.
