There is a women who has a small lot on the Homer spit and from this site she feeds the eagles of the area every morning. She has signs up all over the place to not get out of your cars to watch the eagles. But she sells space near her trailer to photo tours for photographers. We did not participate. Her property ends at the high tide water markings thus allowing access to the beach. We shot from that area and even then were told to leave. Which she has no right to do it being state land. There is much controversy on her feeding the eagles and fish and game may shut her down. Because it is upseting the blance in the eagles favor for space with the rest of the shore bird population. This ofcourse makes it a great place to view eagles close up and photograph them lots of photographers with big lens were behind her fence shooting and I ask if anyone could shoot from there and they said it was a group only shoot. So we used the beach as I said. The only other grouping of Eagles I know about is the one in Haines AK around this time. Where mother nature supplies an abundance of salmon along the river and many photographers flock there to shoot.Haines being a day and a half drive over icy roads plus not knowing anyone to stay with we decided to go to homer just a 6hr drive from our home. It was well worth it but be ready to rip through a lot of film. Shooting them on the wing is tough and my VR Nikon hunted very much and was not made to auto foucs fast. But I got a few good shots. Mostly it was good to get out of the house and do some shooting in winter and see old friends. We might go backin April. Donot forget warm clothes and boots
