gilbert 0 Posted January 18, 2006 I like this picture because of its strong graphical factor. Did you think about a B/W Version of this picture? It might work out. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted January 19, 2006 As a matter of fact, when I took it I planned on it being B&W. I agree with you about the graphical element and that is exactly what I was trying to convey. However, when I made the conversion, I found I prefered the color version. I'll post the B&W soon .... Link to comment

niranjn 0 Posted January 19, 2006 Well seen, and a very nice composition. I would have loved this location! If there is one thing that I can say about this compostion is that it emphasizes "almost parallel" lines. The angles are subtle and I am happy that I don't see anything as gauche as a strong diagonal :-) Very cool. Link to comment
jeff_henderson 0 Posted January 20, 2006 I like the mix of geometry and color in this image. Nice shot! Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted January 20, 2006 What wonderful colors and lines, I'm glad you chose to bypass the B&W. This would make a great travel poster or a jigsaw puzzle. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted January 23, 2006 hah, very entertaining -- reminds me of the opening in Kurasawa's "Red Beard" (just watched it the other day). be interesting to see a black and white version but i think the color adds a lot. the tones are very well done, no glare or shiny places that overwhelm. not sure the very bottom roof adds a lot -- take a look at it without that, see what you think if you haven't already. wood 1 Posted January 25, 2006 Wonderful combination of geometry and color. B&W would be interesting, but I'm almost sure I would prefer color. The saturation is just right. Nice framing as well. Congratulations! Link to comment

joemoree 0 Posted January 26, 2006 adding to my previous post,Im a big B&W fan but I love the indidual colors of each brick that was captured by you here.I seems almost like a painting in this image. Link to comment
nino1 0 Posted January 29, 2006 ciao Bill, I hope that everything is fine with you. very beautiful shot, very good composition; I don't think colours are too saturated, just fine. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted January 31, 2006 Thanks everyone for all the great comments and suggestions. I like the picture, but this reception has overwhelmed me a bit. I tried it again in B & W, but I think it's kind of a cliche and I prefer the color version. I tried cutting out the lower roof, but (and it was a surprise to me also) it turns out to be really necessary. It balances the picture somehow and when you take it out, the building looks small and crowded. I do agree that the lower roof can be darkened a bit and I will burn it a bit before I print. Finally, thanks for a great suggestion, Charles. You are right that the little crack at the top is distracting. I will take care of it by rotating the pic just a bit to the right and the crop from that should eliminate it. Thanks again everyone! Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted February 4, 2006 Love this 'stairs like" roof tops. I like the inclusion of the lower roof as it provides a some sort of base, i think. Well done art! Link to comment
root 0 Posted February 5, 2006 I like this a lot, but if you don't mind, I have a couple suggestions. First, I think a circular polarizer might have cut down on the roof reflections. I agree with rotating and trimming the top, but I also think the bottom distracts from the broad curve formed by the four smaller elements playing off the two larger ones. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted February 5, 2006 Thanks, Carl ... Now that I look at it again, I think you are right. It's a definite improvement. I thought about the polarizer (I had one with me) at the time, but I didn't think it was an option as it was early in the morning and quite foggy and dank. I shot this braced on a a none-too-stable fence pole with the zoom all the way out and I don't think I could've got a useable shot with a filter on. As it was, I took about 10 shots and only 2 were sharp. Link to comment
