salvatore.mele 1 Posted January 18, 2006 Blurring the foregorund faces is a great way to convey how anonymous one can feel in the madness of the Xmas shopping, whose athmosphere is effectively conveyed by marrying the lights in the stars and the shop windows. I like it. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Thanks, Salavatore. I love that reading. I wish I could say I thought of that but the blurring is mostly because I broke my tripod on this trip, so I climbed up on a fountain and set the camera on a part of it to shoot this. BTW,the compliment means a lot from someone whose portfolio I admire greatly. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted January 18, 2006 Bill, thanks. I was intrigued by the fact the lights are NOT blurred nor are the lights of the shots, while the faces are, which triggers my reading of the image. This is not so much tripod-dependent, I guess, but rather shutter-speed dependent. Another thing I like in the red-hues of the faces, is the lady in blue/purple in the bottom right: did you note how nicely she balances the blue/purple lights on the top. I know it might be sheer luck, but having her there (in addition to the stripe on the jacket of someone else) adds a lot to the shot. Link to comment
gilbert 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Sometimes a mishap makes one to be inventive. This one I think is a good example of that. Maybe if your tripod weren't broken, you wouldn't have searched for that high point of view and then the perspective wouldn't have been so great like this position. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Two days before Chirstmas and downtown gets a BIT crowded. I shot this without a tripod, but if I could reshoot it, I think I would like to use a longer shutter and blur the people a bit more. Link to comment
