jerry ting 1 Posted January 18, 2006 This is a rework. Your comments and suggestions (especially about the tonal range) will be much appreciated. Link to comment
sharshar 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Jerry, this leaves me with my jaw dropped. This is reminiscent of Asian fine art paintings. This is pure drama, oh my God Jerry this is magnificent. Maybe POW? Congrats on a piece of true art! Link to comment
chris hughes 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Excellent action shot. The exposure is sublime. Even the parts that look a little blown (I'm guessing that the full size image shows more detail in those areas) fit in perfectly. 6/7 Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 18, 2006 Sharon, Chris and Gino for stopping by. Really appreciated. Sharon, I feel really flattered by your compliment but I don't think this is good enough for POW yet. Chris, I still have a lot to learn about B&W conversion. It is such a difficult area to master IMHO. I appreciate your input. Gino, thanks for the pair of 7's. Link to comment
j_m_lee_photography 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Jerry, This is a best picture for the coming lunar new year. Awesome!!! 7/7 Link to comment

BobSandford 0 Posted January 18, 2006 The tonal weighting toward the dark end really draws out the lines that occur in the highlights. It's an interesting way of emphasizing the motion and energy of the birds. My temptation would have been to set the midpoint (in PS) a little lower to bring a little more detail out of the shadows but what you have here is very effective. Link to comment
free2run 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Very elegent. The lighting, exposure-control and timing are just perfect. Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 18, 2006 Spencer, Saleem, Alec, Julio, Bob, Ibrahim and wayne for stopping by. Really appreciated. Bob, I just wish that the bird on the top could have turned it's head towrads the light just a little bit when I took the shot then it will be perfect. Link to comment
denis grzetic 0 Posted January 19, 2006 usually i dont care much for "bird" shots...but this is amazing...and on the end it is really no matter what is the subject in picture...what is matter is that this picture is excellent...and your choice to do this in b/w ... Link to comment
toddk1 0 Posted January 19, 2006 This is really a fantastic wildlife shot. I realize how hard good wildlife photography is. I rate this as is 5/5 only because it seems very dark. I think a brighter print would really make it pop. Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 19, 2006 Eugene, Alan, Denis and Todd for your compliments and comments. Denis, thanks for your kind words and I cannot agree with you more. Todd, I appreciate your honest opinion but I really feel that your version kind of ruins my intention of presenting this picture. My intention is to show the action, not the features, of these 2 egrets. Thanks for your input anyway. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted January 19, 2006 Jerry, this is superb image for composition, light and exposure. Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 19, 2006 A.K. and Randal for your kind words. Randal, I could not express how much that I like and appreciate my D1X in words. One of the most reliable Nikon automatic SLR (film or Digital) that I've ever owned and still going strong. I just ordered a D200 but I'll never let go of my D1X. A really work horse. Link to comment
toddk1 0 Posted January 19, 2006 ?????I don't think that it is a matter of intention but rather just dark, it gives the feeling that the image is 2 stops under exposed. Link to comment
