kslonaker 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Did a Gaussian blur on background, then brought back with Soft Light. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Kim, another beauty. I don't know where you find all these birds; they don't live in Virginia 6/6 Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Lovely photograph. Sharpness, color and contrast are top notch. You did a very good job on that background. I am just a bit confused though. I understand guassian blur and I understand the soft light blending mode. I am not sure how they go together in this application though. I'll have to experiment if it gives results like this because its about as good as it gets. I am almost hesitant to make suggestions. But I will anyway. I think it would have been good if you had brightened the eye just a bit to enhance the catch light. In any event its a very classy piece of work. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Larry, I made a layer with Gaussian Blur on about 40 (it looks incredibly blurred). I then selected Soft Light and painted most of the bird back as the original layer underneath. Didn't go into great detail in the initial posting, but that's how I did this effect. Thanks for visiting, everyone! Sondra, we are known as the "birdiest city" (Corpus Christi), so there is no shortage of birds here. Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Thanks for visiting, Lynn. It takes lots of patience to get bird shots, but it helps when you have many birds in your yard! Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Rafik, I can sit for hours taking bird shots and I don't even feel the cold or discomfort. Otherwise, all bets are off on my patience level and tolerance for cold! :) Thanks for visiting, everyone. Link to comment

home page1 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Very nice, Kim. Your bird shots continue to be very successful. Nice blending choice and you taught me something - I hadn't been aware of the blending options. Link to comment
