petervannugteren 4 Posted January 15, 2006 Incredible work! How dangerous is this kind of shooting? Link to comment
stormphotonet 1 Posted January 15, 2006 I am about a 1/2 mile away it is one of those lightning strikes that the thunder comes at the same time. This is the last CG (cloud to ground) that I got in this series. After this one I headed for cover in the van. This kind of shooting can be dangerous. The likelyhood of being struck by lightning is always in the back of my head. And there are other things like at night you need to be aware of traffic. Thank you all for your support. ada-ipenburg 0 Posted January 15, 2006 Your a real professional photographer of the phenomenons of nature Ken! This picture is such a great example of it. Really very impressive what you've catched here. Exceptional shot! Warm greetings and take care, Ada:~) Link to comment

Landrum Kelly 64 Posted January 15, 2006 Kenneth, you know that I have driven into hurricanes and tried to chase tornados, but, my friend, lightning still scares me to death. This is where I draw the line. I would be running for cover. This kind of cloud-to-ground stuff (sometimes from the cirrus top of a storm) is especially frigntening, having enough power to jump several miles to the ground. Nonetheless, good work. Hope you live. Do you remember the aperture and shutter speed you used? The only time I seriously tried this was with my Olympus, but I tried it with very long shutter speeds and got more digital noise than lightning. P.S.: Never mind, Ken. I found the link to Chuck Doswell's site on your other photo. Thanks! --Lannie Link to comment
stormphotonet 1 Posted January 15, 2006 Lannie Sorry for the delay Mr. Doswell is one of the best I will add the link here for someone eles. If I am shooting lightning at night I like to use 200 speed film and the f-stop open unless the CG's are bright and then I shut the f-stop down there is the link to Doswell's page http://www.cimms.ou.edu/~doswell/ltgph.html Link to comment
