Poetry in Motion

Scanned on Nikon LS100 & processed in PS4 on a Mac G3 (selectively using motion blur filter to avoid the static effect of a high shutter speed - unavoidable with the bright sunlight)

nice action shot, the blurred effect works well, almost as you were trying to capture a streaker in mid flight, composed well

Your outdoor nudes are refreshingly different - not just beautiful but somehow look like they SHOULD be there. This is the first I've seen which shows the naked body in action and it adds another dimension. I wish I'd taken it (or someone had taken it of me).

Good colors, and I like the diagonal line of it. A shade too much blur for my taste, but really quite nice otherwise.

Oh my goodness. There is a shot like this of Heide Lammar, a divinely beautiful actress of the 1930's who could have been born in the 90's. I think it is one of the most erotic pictures I know. You have captured the same effect. It's just fabulous.

I first commented on this photo ages ago. Visiting again, and looking through the rest of the portfolio too, I realize that this is not the result of "chance", but that of a determined eye that captures on film those fleeting moments which usually pass us by before we realize what an impression they have left on our mind. There is no way one could pose a picture like this. It is a moment captured backwards in time.

Thank you for your kind comments. I'm so glad you appreciate this shot which is my own favorite of all my portfolio. It was taken of my then girl friend (now wife) as she was climbing back up from the sea in a deserted area of coastline. I was enthralled by her natural and graceful movement and tried to capture it, helped by the brilliant sunlight (though this made judging the exposure quite difficult).

I have not seen the Hedy Lamarr photo - I guess it was from her early film Extase (if you have a URL for it please let me know). There is a brief but wonderful scene in the film "Manon des Sources" which re-creates this feeling.

When she caught up with me I took another more static shot which I like as a portrait though the extreme foreshortening perspective can make it look strange at first glance.

Best wishes, Jonathan

I was browsing through your portfolio and this image really jumped out at me. The diagonal composition is very dynamic and I love the motion blur. Also the color palette is interesting. Great image!

I wanted to represent the female nude figure in action rather than the almost universal static form. The beauty of graceful movement through the landscape represents to me the ideal of humanity in harmony with the natural world.

As in many of my pictures the figure is intended as both the object and the subject, hoping that the viewer can identify with the situation of the person and experience the scene from within.

I have posted a revised scan of this slide - my new LS-5000 seems to do a better job of shadows especially. All comments / critiques are very welcome. Jonathan

very good and fresh idea. And since running around in the wilderness naked is something I have done from time to time I can appreciate it.

This is my all-time favourite in your complete and very admirable gallery. I keep coming back to this picture from time to time, which proves to me, that this picture has the power to keep fascinating even over a long period of time.
