Nice lighting, the branch is ok by me.

I think the branch adds balance to the composition, therefore I like it in. What's really remarkable about this shot is the bird's eye. You can make out the brown in the eye. In a lot of bird shots I have seen, it's just completely black and you really don't get a sense of detail. You did a great job of capturing detail on this shot.

Agreed - the branch definately adds to the composition. I like the unconventional close-up crop of the bird as well.

Very nice colours and details! For the branch I agree with the majority above. The position of the bird would be a bit odd without it, like he could fall over any time.
