I like the composition but I think you took this photo at the wrong time. The high sun desaturated all the color. I'm not sure if this is the reason but I think the image would be even better if it was taken early in the morning or just at the last light of day.

The sun is low all day in mid-October. In addition we look west here and it's late afternoon, because the sun is almost behind me. See the shadows of the trees in the middle.

The colors are real. We had a very dry summer,so the orange glow is weakened by dry yellow. See the saturated green of some of the paturage spots.

early in the morning the sun would be in front, the orange glow would be almost invisible andif I'd have waited a little bit longer, the shadow on the right would dominate much more of the scene. There is not much choice since there are not too many leave trees in this part of the Alps (Haute Provence); we have mostly Larch trees and Sapins.

This photo was taken late afternoon too but on a more cloudy day and I shot it from about 50 meters to the left.
