This is my first posting of the new year ;) I wasn't too sure how to

crop it, so please comment on the crop and effect I finally came up

with here. Thanks, and a happy new Year to all on PN :)

Very nice composition and tones. The cropping and placement of objects/lines is very traditional (1/3 rule). It's the way you can't go wrong with. Try to take this image again with a wider lens if you have one, and play with it. With super wide shots I like like pushing the composition to a smaller ratio (less than 1/6). It works well with single objects in wide open plain fields like this one. Anyway, it is just one idea out of the million. Best regards, Tibor.

...See you are of to a quick start. Beautiful composition. I love the image in black and white since it provides a nice contrast between the glass-like texture of the water and the coarse textures of the leaves. The square format works really well for the boat in front, but only that boat. It does seem a bit unexpected that the second boat is abruptly cut off. The usual landscape format may be the right format to keep both boats happy. Overall well done. Best Wishes for 2006. Sincerely, Kelvin.

I like the harshness of boat agaist the soft, calm water. The composition is good. I dont think I mind the boat in the background because of the nice highlight on the bow of the boat in the forground. Nice work.

Romantic image, with beautiful sepia tone. I like the perpendicularity of the boats, the noisy aspect, the shadow. I would have left a litlle bit more space at the left of the further boat. Regards, S.

I like the variety in points of interest, Mark. The boats, of course, but also the gull, the wave, the horizon - and, on closer inspection, the bed of "weed." Tremendous overall depth. I like the toning and the hard/ soft contrast. I'm not sure I would change anything; if I were to dabble I might try cropping off a small part of the rear boat just for horizontal uniformity. Impressive, cheers - Seven.
