glen_evans1 0 Posted December 26, 2005 Nice face, nice pose, only things missing are some black and some white. Gray on gray is a hard sell in a portrait. G.E. Link to comment
whinterberger 0 Posted December 27, 2005 Glen , I respect your opinion and you have some great shots in your portfolio , but I thought it obvious that this is a deliberate High Key shot and pure blacks are not usually a feature of such an image...Thanks for your input. Link to comment

whinterberger 0 Posted December 28, 2005 Having done a little research around PN ( and BTW greatly admired Howard Dion's portraits), as well as looking at other sites , I will now eat a little humble pie and admit that most shots described as high key that I found indeed have pure blacks and whites within them. So I should not have called this a high key shot... I do , however , like the look of this image and it will have to stand or fall on its merits ...as all creativity should , regardless of rules or conventions - indeed half the images on PN don't follow 'the' rules and not always to their detriment ... so Glen , again , thank you for your input, which is appreciated. Landrum Kelly 64 Posted April 24, 2008 Actually, I like the high key effect combined with very low contrast and low dynamic range. In this case, the effect is very soft and ethereal. Yes, it can still be called "high key," simply a variant of the usual technique. Still, one wonders how it might have looked in color. Did Id mention that I like it a lot? --Lannie Link to comment
whinterberger 0 Posted April 25, 2008 Thank you for your kind thoughts, I'm happy to show you a colour frame from the same shoot. I don't seem to have the colour version of the 'high key' shot . BTW, the model happens to be my youngest daughter ...:) Link to comment
