White painted walls in Obidos village, Portugal.

Somehow the light was too strong for my camera, and the dark zones,

like the pavement, are noisy. Even my mobile phone, with VGA lens (see

former critique request) managed it better. What did I wrong?

many thanks

I don't know what has happened here? Ther is probably a bit too much saturation, whilst trying to bring out the lower half from the shadow. Try less saturation and see if that helps.

Hi,

thanks for the comment.

Yes, the shadowy part disturbs me a lot but no, I haven't changed the saturation at all (maybe the photo lab where the scan has been done did so, though). I've just set contrast, blur to reduce noise, and the autolevels function of the DTP programme. I will try as you said in a while, since the original is on a CD in Karlsruhe (Germany) and I am now in Pavia (Italy). But, the sky is really so blue in Portugal, as well as the sea is really turcois on Côte d'Azur, not just on pictures.

best wishes for the season's holidays

... a typical lamp for that region of the Earth. Many of them can be seen in Lisbon (but also for Nice, France, they are characteristic). If I am not wrong, they were introduced after the earthquake in 1755 (I visited Lisbon and surroundings exactly with the occasion of this earthquake) this way: on an arm far from the wall, to avoid fire.
