salvatore.mele 1 Posted December 11, 2005 Just strolling around trying out my new 35mm f/2.0... I alreadyremoved some 20% of roughly the same stuff from the top and rightside. Would you crop this tighter? I like to have something darker inthat corner to balance the image... Your comments, criticism and suggestions are more than welcome! Link to comment

root 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Well of course I like it. Jumped right off the TRP page! Imagine my surprise when I saw it was yours. Seriously, these work best when the subject is bright and the background and/or reflecting surface is in shade, just as you've done it. A bit of red never hurts either. The play between the tree silhouettes and shadows didn't hit me at first, but is one of those pleasant surprises that I hope to find when I explore an image. Can't think of a thing to improve it. alexguerra 0 Posted December 20, 2005 Very original stuff. For me what makes this photo is the unusual background composed only by silhouettes contrasting with the warm light in the small reflection. Regards, Alex Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Yes, very Carl Rooty. :) So, what made you buy the 35mm/2? Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted January 11, 2006 I never found the time to thank you all for your comments on this... Carl, I'm glad you like it... I would have been surprised if you did not. It would have meant I did not understand a thing of the way you take pictures, as you inspired this in all levels. Andrea, A.K., thanks. It was a challenge of sorts to try some different subject while trying out the new lens. Alexandre, I am glad you like the way the background is not really a background, it took some time to me to "see" it while composing the shot. Arthur, I wanted a fast prime lens to use on the D70 the way I always had the 50mm/1.4 attached to the Fm2n while traveling. I am not sure I am happy with it though. There is no way the sharpness of the two can be compared, to start with. The bokeh of the 35mm (of course) cannot be compared either, and the slight wide-angle distortions I still get in the periphery of the images is also disappointing. After three weeks of shooting in India with this single lens, I am not sure about the purchase altogether. The laws of optics seem to have an edges on my desires. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 12, 2006 You might want to join Nikonians.org. There were previous discussions over there pertaining to Nikkors which behave quite differently on various sensors available among the Nikon DSLR's. Also, you can go to the Nikon's Japan website to obtain most of the MTF diagrams of the lenses. It may be another tool to use to decide whether a lens is good enough for the dense pixels in the 1.5crop sensor. In my experience, it sppears that most of the older prime lenses cannot match the resolution of the new zoom lenses. Link to comment
