hanna_cowpe 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Pultney Bridge is a Georgian structure which spans the Avon River in Bath. Thanks for visiting and critiquing. Link to comment
germainclaude 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Very well composed. A pleasure for the eye ! Link to comment
matt_c2 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Now I know this scene well. Wonderful shot Hanhah, great use of the trees for some natural framing and a perfect reflection. Regards Matt Link to comment
deozmac 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Hannah - This is a wonderfully evocative capture of the famous bridge. The spire seems off-vertical to my eye, but it's a small aspect and the overall effect is verdant, peaceful and timeless. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Thankyou all so much for your kind comments. Bath has been a special place for me for many years and I always enjoy searching for new angles on familiar places. I was lucky to catch a calm and dry morning for this reflection as our stay was rather drizzly. David, you're right about the spire and I hadn't even noticed. Shame on me because those kind of things usually irritate me too. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 12, 2005 I will not visit it today, because it is too far (I joke!), and I will not critic it no more because it seems perfect to me. You have done a really beautiful shot of this site. Regards, Henri Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted December 12, 2005 Very good shot of the place, Hanna. Did you get a shot of the other side? - Not quite so aesthetic! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 15, 2005 Hanna, that is really a wonderful shot, I don't have anything to add, just enjoy it, so well done. Pnian Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted December 15, 2005 Henri and Pnina, thankyou for stopping to enjoy the view. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Henri, someday you will visit it in person. Colin, it has taken me three days to realize which 'other side' you refer to. Of course you meant the north side of the bridge, where it is dark, dank and dirty! I don't often see that view so I had forgotten about it. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted December 15, 2005 You are blessed to be traveling. Such a beautiful view. Thanks for sharing. God willing, I will be there in May. Link to comment

Landrum Kelly 64 Posted December 21, 2005 What a beautiful place, Hannah, and you have captured it so well. Sometimes I wish that I had been born in Britain. --Lannie Link to comment
iren 1 Posted December 22, 2005 What a beautiful, clear crisp shot! Bravo~ from all the comments, I'll have to add this to my list of places I must see! Kind regards, Iren Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted December 22, 2005 Yes, Bath is a beautiful city, but unfortunately it suffers from the same ills as many cities do and this was a quiet morning before the tourists came out. Just to the right of this are the rugby grounds where many inter city matches are played and that's when the city really buzzes. Link to comment
iren 1 Posted December 29, 2005 Hannah~ I envy your travels and I hope to certainly do more in the near future! ~Especially now since I picked up a camera! :o) Happy New Year to you! Szia, Iren Link to comment
dens 4 Posted January 2, 2006 This is a even better shot of the bridge. You may like some of my last couple of shots, they are reflections. Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted January 15, 2006 Very very nicely composed Hanna. I love the way you positioned that spire so precisely in between the leaves of the trees. Its a beautiful and evocative piece of work that makes one wish they were there. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted January 15, 2006 Iren, Dennis and Larry, I'm glad you've all taken pleasure in sharing the view of my favourite city. It's truly an amazing place. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 19, 2006 Very delicately and precisely composed. I love the thought that went into this, placing that railing in the corner and the steeple in the gap between the branches. And the reflection is gorgeous. It would be interesting to take the same shot at different times of the day or year, in different light, and display them together. Link to comment
Phil_Light 793 Posted September 15, 2006 Hanna- What do you mean you don't have much from your years in the UK? There is some really terrific imagery in here all from the UK. I just loved this town too and found it an endless source of imagery all easily seen in the classic pictorial style. This is just such a classic. I think you have a ton of great imagery here and I could spend days drifitng down the memories of the River Avon... Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 15, 2006 Philip, I meant that when I lived in the UK I wasn't greatly interested in photography and so I missed the opportunity of those years to photograph the many places we lived. It was only when we moved back to my hometown here in Victoria that I took a serious interest. But we do visit family every couple of years so I have to make up for lost time. Bath is such a photogenic location that I never tire of searching for new subjects. Next year we will go in the spring so I can take up Chris on his suggestion to shoot this scene in a different season, as here it was Oct. And my apologies to Chris for not responding to your suggestion. I don't recall reading your comment at the time you posted it and haven't been back to this image since January. Link to comment
Phil_Light 793 Posted September 16, 2006 Glad you could get some of these images uploaded for us to be able to share with you. I am also a huge fan of Bath, Wells and also Glastonbury (kind of the San Francisco of 40 years ago). My heart lies in the Yorkshire Dales, I can't tell you how that area has had an impact on me. I wrote a poem inspired by my visit to that area that was my first published piece of prose. I think of it as more of a lamentation. I love the images that you've uploaded here and am grateful for such prosaic imagery anytime. This has great historical significance and I'm glad you commented on that aspect of the bridge too.
