salvatore.mele 1 Posted December 9, 2005 There I was, with my brand new 35mm and no tripod. I rigged something using my shoe and shot a dozen frames aiming for some cliche' effects during the yearly running race in the old town of Geneva, Switzerland. While I am quite pleased with the blurring effect of the runners and the strong red colour, I am not so pleased with the blurring of the background and the feet, which should have appeared still... it was 1/4 of a second after all. Is it a keeper? Your comments and criticisms (apart from suggesting to bring a table-top tripod, I feel stupid enough without being actually reminded I am) are most welcome. Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted February 16, 2006 I like it! Looks kind of artistic! In my eyes very beautiful this photo! Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 16, 2006 Ellen, thanks. I am glad to see that someone, eventually, has noted this photo. To me, it was a candidate to deletion...it might stay, now! Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted February 16, 2006 I think we are so used to the "normal" kind of photo, maybe thats why you have such low rates and no comments. The blue and the red colors are so good in the photo; that is what made it more interesting to me. I wish i could take a photo like that myself one day. (My english is not that good, otherwise i could explain better :) Regards, Ellen. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 17, 2006 Ellen, taking such a picture is not very difficult... I did not even had a tripod. I just used a mildly wide-angle lens (35mm on digital, which makes it 50mm on film, which roughly means as big as you eyes usually see things). Balanced the lens on my foot, and shot for 1/4 of a second. I am sure you can make it. Just go somewhere where people use to jog around and in a few attempts it will work. The interesting aspect is that for the way we move, a foot will look rather stable while all body swings around it. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 17, 2006 I'm divided, but the opinion I seem to be settling on is this: The concept is tremendous -- creative and beautiful. But because the background in this particular shot isn't very interesting, it doesn't qualify as a keeper. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 17, 2006 Chris, that was indeed just my doubt. I longly wanted to try a shot like this, I happened to be downtown during the race with the new lens to test, and I went for it. A day I've to setup something funnier... maybe a reflecting running attire, in the night, with the headlamps of the car to "fix" the motion... or something like that. Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted February 22, 2006 Thanks for your answer Salvatore; I just saw it now. Just read the above comments; I do like the background, the whole photo; so to me it would be a keeper. So you see, we all have our own taste:)Regards, Ellen. Link to comment
