salvatore.mele 1 Posted December 8, 2005 That's Konkordia Platz, in the Bernese Oberland Alps, Switzerland. This is a place where four glaciers merge into the mighty 23-km long Aletsch glacier. The dimensions are mind boggling...and the view you earn after a couple of days jumping acros crevasses is remarkable. Did I manage to convey the feeling of the place? I fear I did not. Your comments and criticism on this and any other of my mountain shots is more than welcome. Link to comment

billfoster 0 Posted December 9, 2005 Your mountain pictures always amaze me. I had the same feeling in the Dolomiti recently. When you see these mountains, they are so overpowering and awesome that one is left ... well ... awestruck. Pictures can never convey it. But, this one comes close. I love the way the lines lead across and the solitary figure. Great work. Red Riding Hood is also wonderful. Link to comment

salvatore.mele 1 Posted December 9, 2005 Thomas, Rajeev, Julio. Thanks. Bill, I'm glad I was able to convey part of the awe one feels in front of the mountains. It is the theme dearest to me. In this case, I choose to shot from the whole rope lenght away from her so to have lots of sky and try to describe the vastness of the place in addition to the mountain themselves. David, it's the fact itself that I visit those places that compells me to take pictures, to share my vision of them. Link to comment
vuyisich 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Hi Salvatore. This is a very nice shot. It does convey the great scale of nature, although we can only see 2 out of 4 glaciers. I like the composition and colors. The light is flat, but I am sure you could not have waited for hours for better light. The very dark sky indicates the high altitude. One suggestion I would make is to start shooting panoramas at places like this one. I think a panorama would better convey the vastness of this place. Thanks for posting. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted December 11, 2005 Momo, thanks for your comment. Indeed, my mountain shots are usually shot much earlier in the day, but I liked this place and tried to get something in the sub-optimal light. There is something better from the day before in the same folder in another corner of this big "glacier square". As for the panorama, after having seen the sublime images of Jim Dockery, this is growing on me... Link to comment
