Along the Georgian Bay on Ontario's Bruce Peninsula, the evening sunsets across the wetlands. Comments are invited.

The Larger View may be best.

Spot on exposure: especially nice details kept in the bottom branches of the two main trees and the foreground plants. Good comp: diagonals leading to the small patch of water. A good last show of what was before what was to come (well, already here now). Well done Walt.

Very nice colours, it must have been a calm night! Your composition is faultless, the positioning of the tall tree couldn't be better.

Photo's like this always make me wonder where the photographer was when it was shot, the irony is that, in my mind, behind here is a macdonalds, a gas station and a freeway :D I hope the reality is very different.

Walter, I would also agree that your composition is very good. Considering all the elements that play into this you did very well. To me the sky and colors of the light reflecting off the clouds really make this a very good image. On my monitor the lower half of the image is a little dark so I cannot see all the details in the area behind and near the first two trees to the right. I bet a print will look really good. - Sean

Bryan, Ben, Sean: thanks for the input. The reality is Ben, on this one what you see is what you get. It was about as far away from anything developed as one could get in that region. I am standing just off a a very long and straight dirt road that is completely deserted (for the moment). The wetland extends out from the road on both sides. A very calm and somewhat cool evening. The light was changing so quickly as I was setting up that I did not think that I would be able to catch it.

Sean, yes this one is intentionally dark as I wanted to replicate the feeling of twighlight on the marsh. I can still see detail in the two tall trees, although I have to somewhat strain to see it; not unlike what it would have been on location. I was going to bring the level up a bit more using Photoshop, and I did try that, but it looked a little "forced" doing so. I included a version showing that...what do you think? Regards.

Walter thanks for showing the second version. Seeing the second I would agree that your original is better. I agree that this all adds up to what you really saw and overall is a better image. Thanks - Sean

Wonderful tones! Those two naked trees are what make this composition work so well IMO. Cycles of life and death, of night and day... Well done! Alex

Wlater, I had a bet with myself (and won!) that this was the Big Pup in action. There is a certain assurance about everything. Magnificent sky and the stillness of the water adds to the hushed atmosphere. Beautiful moment.

Walter, outstanding sky and good placement of the tall tree. The high grass in the foreground and the water line running diagonally adds to this strong composition. Well captured, Sondra

I like the original best. The placement of the two trees is perfect and really adds interest to the composition. Nice work, Walter!

I agree that the first one is best...the subtlety is just so beautiful.

As I look at the natural beauty around us here, in OZ, I know that you could probably do it justice. You'll have to visit here someday. We are here until April, but who knows? We may return someday for a longer time....

Thank you Linda! Hey...what do mean I could "probably" do a good job ;0) Glad to hear you and Roger are doing well in Oz. Regards.
