aepelbacher 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. I think that the shoreline/boaters on the right is a bit too blown out. I tried playing with it in the shadow/highlight function, but didn't see any significant improvement. Thoughts? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Not truly a landscape, I know ... but it was the closest I could come up with. Any comments or ratings are appreciated!! :-) Link to comment
v 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Lou Ann, I Love the composition and the place. The light is also quite good. What I would like to see a bit more is the colour warmth, perhaps... It looks like there was a lot of light, but thre's hardly any yellow mellow :) in the picture... however, its my personal preference, it need not be there. PS - have uploaded some wine bottle shots for you :) Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Hello Lou Ann! You where in France and you did'nt say it! Tell me if I am mistaken. In seeing this photo I thought "this is the Ardeche". Yes or not ? In any case, it looks very much like the gorges of the Ardeche. I will even say more precisely at the Pont d'Arc. Have you tried to shot it from the banks of the river ? There is better view points from here than from the top. Regards, HenriOh! while I think to that: would you take a look to my new presentation Why have I fell in love with Venice ? Thank you. colin carron 58,916 Posted December 4, 2005 I've had a go at increasing detail in the light bits by selecting that area with the boats and beach and playing with the levels amd opacity. It is a bit rough but gives the idea. I like the diagonal composition and using the boats as a centre of interest in the shot. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Vi, THANKS - that's what I was missing. I'm going to go back and try this with a warming filter and see what I get. Where are those wine bottle shots? I'm not seeing them.... Henri, I hate to admit it, but I was in France this summer and didn't tell you. :-( I was trying not to be rushed with my trip, as it was the first two weeks after school was out and just wanted to drive the countryside without a schedule or anything like that. Sorry!! You are correct ... it is certainly the Gorges d'Ardeche (did I say that correctly?) They were beautiful, but I only had a couple of hours to make the entire drive, so this was the place that I was able to shoot from. I do believe that I have some nice shots, though. You might see one or two more. I'm on my way to your presentation. It may take me a little while to work through, but I have fallen in love with Venice, too, so I'm sure that I'll enjoy every minute of it. :-) Colin - you've got it! That's exactly what I was trying to do. I will try again, and will try the warming filter as mentioned above. I may even simply re-post this shot sometime in the next couple of days. Thanks again, all! :-) Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Okay, how's this? I (1) added a warming filter, and (2) darkened the shore on the right a bit for the detail. What do you think of these changes? Link to comment
v 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Lou Ann, I like the warmer version! great result :) About the bottles - sorry, I hid them :)) Here, check this out: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3915133 underneath :) Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Got it: The Gorges of the Ard裨e. In the Rhone River Valley. Right, Henri? ;-) Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted December 6, 2005 Great composition but I like the changes yuou made with the warming filter; they make it more vibrant. Regards. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 6, 2005 Not exactly right, Lou Ann. The gorges of the Ardeche are in the department of Ardeche, not very far from the Rhone river valley but not in it. Just a detail. Regards. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted December 8, 2005 The diagonal flow of the river gives the image some movement. I agree with darkening the sand and warming filter. Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted December 15, 2005 Ditto. What I would have said has already been said. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted December 19, 2005 Lou Ann, I don't think that the light area is blown. I can still see detail. As a kayaker, I can relate to this. This is a very inviting scene to me, and you have captured it beautifully. That limestone does provide some awesome formations for photography--and exploration! I hope that you are enjoying your holiday from the classroom. --Lannie Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Hi Lannie!! We don't go on break until Friday. I hope to upload some festively seasonal shots before then ... and then I'm off to Buffalo! :-) Link to comment
