Kinda sucks that this week's POW is from Death Valley too, but just

got back and wanted some feedback on these (lots more to upload).

This was taken late afternoon, (tried hard to avoid footprints.

Next time I'm taking a broom with me :-). ) tripod... Any thoughts?

I love the shot; the shapes and contours are wonderful. I'm wondering, though, was the sand really this intensely colored?

Here is the original (jpeg from raw) without any editing at all. Pretty sure I raised "contrast" in my RAW converter, then some minor "levels" adjustments in PS, and a boost of around 8 for saturation. No filters, or any other funny-business though, just late-afternoon sun. Does it seem manipulated? I usually try to shy away from that as much as possible.
