billfoster 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Yes, I know, another waterfall with leaves and flowing water ... but, one thing I love about the Smokies is how things never look the same. From day to day a single large waerfall becomes three, then four then, back to one, leaves fall, ice forms, flowers bloom; it's always the same and always changing. I love this paticular spot because there is a large reflecting pond (a rarity in a land of swift-moving streams) and because of the way the water always criss- crosses in new directions. jmoody 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Don't know if there's a way around this exposure wise or photoshop wise, but a bit tooo much of a contrast for me between the ultra white water and the super dark rocks (I'm on a "dark" monitor too though so...) Love the motion of the water and the criss crossing as mentioned. Also very nice to have such brilliantly colored leaves all over. Beautiful shot no doubt. For me though, my first instinct is to have wanted the water to be a hair less white and the surroundings a hair less dark (maybe I'm nuts. Highly possible) Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted December 10, 2005 How did you type that so fast? :-) I think you are probably right. I have a plug-in that does curves in PS Elements, but I think that I get carried away with the contrast sometimes. I also adjusted this on my laptop and I should really only do it on my crt monitor. amphotography 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Not critiquing the photo... more resonding to last comment cc contrast. In photoshop, u could create a new layer and then get its negative. Leaving original layer on top then change the opacity to blend both together. What u end up with is a photo where the light parts are darker and vice versa. Personally though i think this photo is perfect as it is.. just my 2 cents Link to comment
stupski 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Tend to agree that darks may be too dark. Did you use the highlight/shadow feature in PS? This is certainly one easy way to do this. It's definitely worth fixing. Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted December 10, 2005 I'm a victim of the "laptop" editing syndrome too. I'm constantly fooled by lights and darks of what I see vs. what's really there. Did you shoot RAW? Might be easier to do 2 layers of different "exposures" that way? (poor man's key to an ND grad filter) Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Nah ... I've experimented with RAW and I like it but (a) this camera has first generation RAW and it's not all that and (b) I don't have enough memory for a day shooting in the mountains. I will definitely switch to RAW when I get a DSLR soon. The ability to do extended dynamic range shots is what I like best about RAW. But, I don't think that was the problem here. The exposure wasn't that difficult; I jsut got a bit carried away with curves and s/h. Sometimes, I like PS more than my camera and it shows. Link to comment
