billfoster 0 Posted November 30, 2005 Built in 1631 by Baldassare Longhena (and inspired by Palladio), this may be the most photographed building in the world, expecially from the Academia Bridge where it provides "the" classic portrait of Venice. Nonetheless, the striking deep blue of the Venice night and the yellow glow in the stones always make it irresistable to me. View large to see the gondolas blurred from the waves. Around November 21st each year, the city constructs a bridge of gondolas and candles from Piazetta San Marco across the Grand Canal to here and most Venetians cross to pray and honor an oath made in 1647. Gondoliers take their oars across to be blessed by a priest. Link to comment

alecee 0 Posted December 1, 2005 Nicely done Bill but I see a little purple fringing on the light bulbs beside the gondolas. Not your fault of course. Time to upgrade to DSLR? ^_^ Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted December 1, 2005 You're right about the purple fringing (it's horrible with this camera). Thanks for ruining another picture for me. ;-) Anyway, I was about THIS close to buying the 20D, but I've decided to wait until the replacement comes out in feb/mar, as is rumored. Then, I'll decide whether to buy the 20D (which should come down) or the new one. I love the 20D, but I think I'd like a bit more resolution since I tend to crop a lot. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Hi Bill, thanks for leaving such a nice note at the end of my portfolio. I'm glad my images spur you towards greater heights in photography. Your new works are really creative and impressive. Hmmm, my humble apologies if you feel your ratings declined because of my comment about the fringing. That's not my intention and I did tell you before Bill, you've outgrown your system long ago. Time to get into real action with DSLR and even FF with the 5D if I were you. The pleasure you get out of the clean resolution is more then worth the investment. BTW, with the new 'disapprove' system in PN there is no problem for you to delete any comment you don't want in your portfolio. Isn't that great? So far haven't used it myself. Cheers! ^_^ Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Hi Alec ... That's why I hate the net sometimes. Humor just doesn't come out right. I meant you ruined it for me because when I look at it now, I see the purple fringing, which I never really noticed before, and it bugs me! I didn't even think that it could be interpeted as being a comment about your comment affecting ratings. I don't care a hoot about the numbers in the ratings except as they impact how many people see the picture. As far as disapproving, I've never done it either; I like people to see my stuff mistakes and all and negative comments are usually more interesting and one can learn more from them. As for the 5D ... that's another reason I haven't made the leap. I want full-frame but it's too expensive right now. I love the 20D, but it feels like a compromise. I want FF but just can't afford it 'till I find a new job. Anyway, thanks again for the kind words. Hopefully, I'll get to Singapore again one of these days. I really loved it! Link to comment
