"Blackbird"

baldurbirgis

Singing in the dead of night. The Beatles

"Blackbird" through an open window. Shadow on the wall, inside the tower from what is left of the roof. Shutter speed: 1/125. Aperture: f/11. Composite. The sky in the original image was rather dull. The sky above the fog over the sea, is from another image of mine which I have not used before. The sky was selected to fit the image as perfectly as possible. Special thanks to a good friend, Fridrik Eiriksson. Copyright: Baldur Birgis

A shadow through an open window, inside the silagetower, from what is left of the roof. I had to wait and make many shots with the "bird" in the "frame" and to get the tractor in the right position with a spot on. Two months later, when I was in Copenhagen thinking about the title, a great song from the Beatles came into my mind.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night - Take these broken wings and learn to fly - All your life - You were only waiting for this moment to arise." Lennon/McCartney.

Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.

Yup, an excellent song! Have you heard the remake they used in the movie "I am Sam"? ANyway, awfully nice shot as well. Very poweful sky combines incredibly well with the tower and the tractor. The broken window almost seems too good to be true. Really a great image!

Baldur, I think your title is fitting with that window. A question if I may - Is the sky in your area normally this blue? I look through your portfolio and it's simply amazing. The colors are so vivid. Congrats on a very good image and a fine portfolio - Sean

Jeff, no I have not heared it. It must be very good. There is NO BROKEN window. This is an OPEN window with no glass. The shadow/blackbird is on the wall inside the tower and can be viewed through the open window. Many thanks for your visit and thoughts. Regards, Baldur

Sean, thank you for your thoughts about the title. About your question: The sky is often, (not always) blue in Iceland in a beautiful way. One of the reason is clean air. Many thanks again. Regards Baldur

Ah! I get it. The 'bird' is the shadow of the roof on the back wall of the tower? No glass? Very ingenious. Great sky too.

Colin, you are exactly right. First I noticed the unique shadow on the back wall inside the tower and then the tractor at work in the background. The tower is not in use any more. After considering circumstances I decided to use the 85mm lens. Later I was thinking of the "black bird" inside the tower when "Blackbird" came into my mind. Many thanks for your visit.

Hej Baldur. Bedste hilsner, Michael

Arthur, many thanks for your visit and comment.

Do you mean to the right ? I did take a close look at the white dot in Ps and I can tell you what it is. In the background of "Blackbird" to the left are white birds and to the right are two white birds close to each other. I did notice the white dot before posting and decided not to clone it out. Now I am thankful for that. Many thanks for your question. Best regards, Baldur
