pjmeade 12 Posted November 23, 2005 I have seen several excellent shots of Chester, my home city, on PN recently. The cloisters of the cathedral are one of my favourite places. I had thought of going sepia, but this seems to be close to it anyway. What do you think? Link to comment

nicholasprice 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Hi Pete. I recognised this immediatly! However cold these cloisters get, they always feel emotionally warm - You have captured this warmth of the cheshire sandstone beautifully. You are right about the sepia, it is unnessessary here - your image is timeless! Looking at the exposure date, I wasn't yet a week old when you took this photograph! - that would have made you about 15/16 years old at the time - isn't it time to revisit the old city? Fond regards, Nick. Link to comment

colin carron 58,916 Posted November 25, 2005 Peter, Nice shot for a young fellow! It is some time since I saw this beautiful place - must get back there some day. Good light! Link to comment
gilbert 0 Posted November 26, 2005 Good composition. Nice work with light and shadows. That's a picture that works out best if you take some time to look at it! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted November 29, 2005 No doubt you where interested by the spots of light on the ground and the wall, but in my opinion the great contrast between shadow and light makes it difficult to see. I think it would work very well in black & white. You can also crop out the first spot of light just in the foreground, and begin the frame in the shadow which follows. Regards, Henri Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted November 29, 2005 I have said something stupid. After a better look, the contrast is not so marked that I believed. But always, crop out the first spot of light. Regards Link to comment
pturton 10 Posted November 29, 2005 Peter, Another fine capture with colour perfect for this scene. As Henri suggests, I'd also prefer to crop out the foreground lighted area. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted November 29, 2005 Hello, thanks for looking at this shot. I had a rough try at a BW without the nearest patch of light. I would value your opinions. Very best wishes. Peter Link to comment
pturton 10 Posted December 2, 2005 Peter, I like the crop of the B&W and the the B&W rendition is very good but I prefer the colour version with its warm orange glow. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Hello Peter! For me the black & white version is absolutely OK, and I prefer it to the "red" version.Oh! while I think to that : would you take a look to my new presentation Why have I fell in love with Venice ? Thank you. Link to comment

colin carron 58,916 Posted December 4, 2005 Peter, this works well in b&w as the stones textures and light and shade are important. Nice work! Link to comment
