Good composition with a strange colors on ground and desturation on sky. I like so dramatical air on this pic.

Hi Chris, have you been travelling ? Well the processing.....let me think. Not too complicated, I've done a bunch of these (mostly in my Northumberland folder). Basically the sky is another layer which was shot 'in camera' in B&W mode with red filter. As you know with B&W 35mm film if you shoot skies with a red filter with any kind of cloud cover it will turn out pretty cool. The same tends to be true with digital.

The foreground I made a duplicate layer and used the 'soft light' option which boosts the colour a bit, then I desaturate it to my taste. When things are looking 'raw' I merge the layers then, being a fussy bloke I play around with contrast and stuff untill it looks a little 'older' and the result is something like this....thanks for commenting Chris, that will be $10 please...

Kidding........Best regards Michael.

don't know about the red stake. hummm? I like the birds over the castle and the cloud formation. Also the light on the castle is good. I also like seeing the grasses in the foreground.

Michael, thanks for your visit that brought me to meet your work. The series of Northumberland is impressive! as well as this one.

The placement of the orange/red stick in the nearly monochromatic landscape, is well chosen and unexpected.well composed and treated. Pnina

I rate 6/6 because the landscape is superb, with a fanstastic light, but I don't agree for this red post in the foreground which mess all up. Regards, Henri

Dificult not to go castle crazy in Northumberland. Nice light in the foreground and castle. The b&w sky works quite well here especially as the other colours apart from the red are quite muted.

A cracking pic Michael. I have a very similar one in my portfolio having spen a fruitful day around Bamburgh.Unfortunately mine does not have the birds which are and added bonus for you.

great composition. I like the way you process the skies on photos in this folder, and in particular on this photo (the merging of the two photos looks most natural here). Very dramatic set of photos, sends me back to medievil europe ;-)
