daryl walter 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Taken one evening this summer. I kept the camera low to avoid getting cars in the frame at the bottom. The ND grad allowed me to keep the foreground and cliffs exposed correctly whilst making sure that colours of the evening sky didn't get blown out. This was another shot that resulted in multiple mosquito bites! Any feedback/ comments/ratings appreciated on this one. Link to comment
jimg 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Good work with the low perspective. A couple nits...The black border could be trimmed. For me it seems a little much.Lastly I think a curves adjustment in Photoshop might help in setting a true black point in your image... that and applying an s-curve would improve the contrast.Sorry to hear about the mosquito bites. Guest Guest Posted November 21, 2005 I've been to this park so many times but can't get tired of seeing a nice photo from it. I agree with Jim on the overwhelming black border. Being overly critical, I'd prefer the grass a bit darker. Beautifully done. Link to comment

daryl walter 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Jim,Thai,Julio and Dan - thanks for commenting, appreciate it. Jim, I can see what you mean. It still needs a bit of work doesn't it. I think I'll go back to the original RAW file and come through from there again (although I think there is also an element of converting to the colour space for this site causing some changes - Thai, the grass in my version is a bit darker, as you say it looks a little washed out here. Which is the point Jim is making as well). I can also see what you mean regards the frame (white might have been better) but I'm not too concerned about that as framing is a pretty personal thing. Thanks again. Link to comment
francois rousseau 0 Posted November 23, 2005 Great shot from a different angle. I love the lighting and agree with the frame - a bit smaller perhaps? With the light being in front of you, I assume you used a bit of fill-flash to pick up detail in the dead tree and grass? Link to comment
daryl walter 0 Posted November 25, 2005 Hi Francois, glad you like it. If you look carefully in the top left of the picture you can see a sun-ray coming in from the left of the picture and illuminating the cliffs on the right. The sun was at about 8 o'clock relative to the direction this shot was taken. There was no direct sunlight (apart from on the tops of the cliffs) but there was still a high level of ambient light so the tree wasn't too badly lit. Some fill flash would have been an idea but I didn't have my flash gun with me (due to trying to keep the amount of gear to a minimum on this trip). I did use a slight curves adjustment to add a little extra light to the foreground though. Hope that answers your question adequately? Link to comment
dguindon 0 Posted November 26, 2005 Perfect one of a kind shot. Sky colours are fantastic with it's elements, though some contrast adjust might accentuate the cliffs a bit more. I especially like the bottom falls pouring on the grass...great angle. Beautiful capture Daryl. Link to comment
