jc-photography 0 Posted November 17, 2005 Constructive critique would be greatly appreciated, thanks for looking. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Jake, while the buoy is a serendipitous thing, I find that it is a distraction. I keep on getting dragged back to it rather than being allowed to follow the line of the water. Perhaps, it could be darkened a little. What exposure did you use for this? Link to comment
christiankiely 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Jake, Nice shot, but definite red cast to the image. Try this, bring up Curves (CRTL-M), then CTRL-1 for just the red channel. Slide the bottom left point from 0 over to about 18 or 20. Then bring up hue/sat (CTRL-U) and drop down to pick red, and reduce red saturation by about 20% Link to comment
jc-photography 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Thanks Jeff and Christian. Jeff, my immediate thought when shooting this one was the distraction created by the buoy so I agree 100%. I shot a frame without the buoy but it seemed to lose a little depth. To my untrained eye the distant glow appeared closer without so I'm a little bit torn. I've reduced saturation slightly but it probably does need a little more taken out to mirror but not detract from the hint of rising sun. Thanks for your comments, they're much more helpful than 'ratings'. Christian, you've got a keen eye. You'll find the magenta-yellow cast in the rocks and the cliff face as it was a little grey. I tried (in vain obviously lol) to add a slight warming effect with curves. Rather than reducing what's there I could reprocess, no cast in the original. I'm glad you brought it up though, because it's something I didn't like about the image. I'm not quite sure about the continous tones in the cliff face either, would have been nice to have some green vegetation or similar to break it up a bit. Thanks again for commenting on my images, I feel a little guilty because I don't get to spend much time on pnet to return the favour. Hopefully will get more time closer to Christmas. T'care, Jake. christiankiely 0 Posted November 19, 2005 I don't actually comment all that often. Typically only on the types of images that I shoot and are well within my "comfort zone." Link to comment
