thwong 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Just wondering how it was done with no trace of footprints seen. Great photo! Link to comment
timages 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Very interesting, great composition, love the juxtaposition of the detail in the upper frame and the relative plain foreground, also the detail in the right side Mountains against the left side in silhouette. Nice one. Link to comment
gregm 0 Posted November 16, 2005 i believe there are no footprints because the rock has been pushed along by the wind to it's current location. it is a rare phenomenon that also sometimes happens to rocks on top of frozen lakes. Link to comment
markomoudrak 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Good job Martin. Greg, wind does move them, but only when the surface is wetmarko Link to comment
jonbp 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Very neat. Good composition, I really enjoy this type of landscape photographed well. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted November 16, 2005 It is precisely this kind of image that makes me want to get into large format. Nice capture. Link to comment
WJT 619 Posted November 16, 2005 Hi Martin. I have seen photographs of this phenomena before and this one is every bit as good as the best that I have seen. Your Balanced Rock is nice too. I have one myself from that location.May I ask how you are scanning your 4x5? I have just started shooting some 4x5's and would like to purchase a scanner. Presently I scan my 6x7's on a Minolta. Regards. Link to comment
jens-a 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Wow.. Cool! How u did this? It really looks like something "unknown", cause we don't see any foot steps:) Very good, both tecnicaly and artisticly! Nice!:D Link to comment
jens-a 0 Posted November 16, 2005 I just had to trye a different version:P Gave it a different "lens" and added some more light and warmer colour in the front. It's not what I think u SHOULD do,.. it's just a "what u could do" :) Link to comment
rizarrio 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Nice, it's cool I don't think you really drag the rock, you did it using something else, any way it nice photo with nice idea, keep it going. Link to comment
ianflindt 0 Posted November 16, 2005 A phenomenally good photograph of an extraordinary phenomenom! Link to comment
ecphora 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Very well done. I too like the larger format for this photo. Was this taken at The Race Track in Death Valley? Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Crisp and clean. Tack sharp and beautiful composition. Link to comment
mquinn01 0 Posted November 16, 2005 First off thank you for all the comments. This was taken at the Racetrack in Death Valley. I did nothing to this rock, no one knows why but these rocks move on the dry lake bed. No one has ever seen them move but the trails make it obvious that they do move. The most common belief is that the wind pushes them across the surface when it's wet. This is from my digital camera because I have yet to send out the 4x5 transparencies to be scanned. forrest_andrew 0 Posted November 17, 2005 every time i see this phenomenon i'm amazed - truely incredible. it certainly has a lot of people fooled!! anyway, great composition and you balanced the sky's exposure out nicely. i do, however, find that the ND grad darkened the top-left hill a bit much. just my thoughts. curious to hear what you think.
