This is wonderfully different. Can't help wondering how it would look square --- cropping from left, might be more abstract, definitely sharper. In any event, lovely work, well done.

amazing portrait!... despite the chaotic colors/designs and her stoic manner, her emotion/expression is still very subtle, yet vivid...

This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum.

Before writing a contribution to this thread, please consider our reason for having this forum. We have this forum because future visitors might be interested in learning more about the pictures. They browsed the gallery, found a few striking images and want to know things like why is it a good picture, why does it work? Or, indeed, why doesn't it work, or how could it be improved?

So, when contributing to this thread, please keep the above in mind. Address the strengths, the shortcomings of the image. It's not good enough to like it, you should spend some time trying to put into words why that is the case. Equally so if you don't like it, or if you can't quite make up your mind.

Let's make sure this forum is a wonderful learning resource for future photographers!

Thank you and enjoy!

I usually am not fond of these types of mask shots, mostly because they tend not to be very original. This is one of those, although some of your others in the folder, Carnival, are very interesting. An example of this is "Kiss". Anyway, you deserve to have one of your photos as Photograph of the Week, as you are a suberb photographer. Congrats MG. Megan

Every once in a while you see a shot that makes you sit back, stop what you are doing and just look. This is one of those photos, for me. The color, the detail, the light (and dark), it is all there. MG, I went to your portfolio, and saw another that I truly am taken with, simply entitled "sign". WOW! Thank you for being the most excellent artist that you are, and for sharing with the rest of us!

Wow! What a beautiful catlike image, green eyes and all. This is spectacularly good, from composition to colors to originality of presentation.

What an extraordinary shot. Maybe one of the best I have seen on photo.net!!!

I especially like the infinite entry points for the eye : the girl's corrol, her flower, her eyes pointing out of the frame.

Exquisite, congrats.

I am stunned by the increased quality of the POWs since HP sponsors this section!

I find this image beyond amazing. My favorite POW this year. The colors, the composition, the EYES. You should be thrilled with making this image!

I like the colors in this shot, but perhaps not in combination with the eyes. I like that there are eyes behind the mask, but for some reason would prefer to see ONLY the eye, not the corner of they lower eyelid.

Colorizing the eye color would seem to be a legitimate "cheat" on this shot. I wonder if decolorizing the eye would be interesting. I think the composition is excellent, and in my opinion the positives in this shot well outweigh the few negatives. Personally, I wonder if perhaps the "type" of shot, a "mask" shot, indicates that this is a money saving, and work saving device to perform studies when models are not handy. I certainly could not afford a model with any frequency, and so such devices would be a way to practice the art at lower expense, perhaps. This should NOT be seen as detracting from the value of the shot as an artistic expression, however. Just some rambling thoughts, perhaps they relate to the purpose to the POW.

I believe this photo is exceptional. The detail is wonderful and makes the image desirable.

I cannot help it but she looks as delicious as a sculpture of milk chocolate inlayed perfectly with mouth-watering white chocolate, however; I will only consume with my eyes.

A saturated and over worked image. It leaves me cold. I feel the subject is very unoriginal and the very dark vignetting is not a subtle

manipulation.

Yes, I don't like it at all.
