steve_munoz 0 Posted October 31, 2005 Truely a powerful photograph. I love the contrast of the dead tree with the color of shy in the background. The bird on the left are a good addition to the image. Only thing I would have changed is to put the tree abit more to the right because it looks like you cropped abit of the branch. Good Job. dougie 0 Posted October 31, 2005 To get the fabulous tree against that sky is good luck and a very good exposure technique, the birds add the icing on the cake. I hope you were looking over your shoulder because things lurk around trees like this... mostly photographers. Excellent image, my congratulations, Dougie Link to comment
myca_jones 0 Posted October 31, 2005 i love everything about this image except the composition... i think it would have looked better if the tree were less centered and more on the right, this way instead of feeling closed this image would have felt more open and the longer branches would have created great lines leading into the rest of the image... now i say that not knowing if that was possible or if something was in the way. but to me that would have made this image perfect Link to comment
liuyuan 0 Posted November 1, 2005 What a dramatic scene! A POW sort of photo, IMO, i.e. a great image which people see different potentials and possibilities. I like it a lot. I agree that it'd be better if the tree is off-centered. Also, I see two conflicting moods here, the eerie and spooky tree against a glorious and warm sky, which is interesting. But I spent a little while in PS in order to show you another option. I haven't decided if I like it better, but thought I'd show you anyway. Michael, sorry for abusing your image :o) Link to comment
christian.s.mendes 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Great shot. It remember me a Tim Burton's movie. You got a fantastic and dramatic effect. Congratulations! Link to comment
mrhaydon 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Thanks Yuan for your comments and rendition, as you say there are many possibilities with this image. I agree that it is slightly too centered and you did well with PS. What I will do is go back and shoot it again, thanks. Link to comment
buck forester 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Really cool image! Personally I think the tree is fine there because the road/path on the right helps balance it out. Is this a single frame photograph or a composite? There's lots of depth of field in low light to freeze those birds in action like that. Regardless, it's a really cool image! Link to comment
mrhaydon 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Thanks Brian, yes this is a composite. The sky was shot 30 minutes later in much the same area. Link to comment

alyson 0 Posted September 6, 2006 I see what others mean about the composition from a purely graphic standpoint, but the composition here adds to the surreal, mysterious feeling of the photo. I like the uneasy feeling I get from the tree touching the edge of the frame, leading us (as so many critiquers have) to wonder what lies just beyond it. Graphically, the path to the right creates much needed movement toward the center of the frame to what I guess would otherwise be a static landscape. the tree itself is magnificent, as is the sky, and the birds are a good addition (composite?). chriss1 2 Posted October 24, 2006 very dramatic shot, tree and sky look together like thriller film scenery. Excellent idea and execution. Colours are natural and not over or undersaturated. Sharpness and overall quality just perfect. Link to comment
