aepelbacher 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I'm not sure if this image holds any interest. I liked the busy-ness of the scene, even though it was early morning before the city was truly busy. The lines and shapes and textures make it feel busy to me. I thought the colors were a bit distracting, so I eliminated them. What do you think? Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I almost think without the vehicle, this would have been better. My eyes want to stop on the van and there's so much more going on here. The road naturally leads your eyes to the vehicle, though, so it's hard not to stop there. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted October 29, 2005 You know ... this sort of picture is SO far from anything that I've done before that I didn't even know where to start in deciding with a critical eye what works and what doesn't. You're right - I should have waited for the car to be gone!! Thanks for the "eye", Kim! Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted October 30, 2005 Well, there is a lot to look at but we are not close enough to be able to focus. I do like the tonal quality of the image. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted October 30, 2005 As Kim says the car does block the eye's progress down the street but it adds a bit more to what is going on with the people etc. Maybe if it was further away. I like the strong perspectve from all the converging lines. The pavement cafe tables on the left are interesting. Maybe you could have had them closer in the foreground. If you wanted to be arty (!) you could have had just them in focus up close and let the rest of the street go fuzzy. Then the car would not have mattered so much. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted October 30, 2005 Lou Ann, I just want to sit down to the left, order a coffee and a croissant. I vote for no car as well, or maybe wait for it to be further away. Nice tone, but could use some burning in the cafe area. Looks like a fun trip for you! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted October 30, 2005 Funny thing, Wils - that's EXACTLY what I did ... at that very cafe ... cappachino and a croissant just after taking that picture. :-) Link to comment
w. roger keagle 0 Posted October 30, 2005 Sit down and have a coffee or perhaps a glass of wine and let the day pass me by...magic !~ Always glad I came to visit ! Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted November 3, 2005 I like this B/W shot. Nice little street in this city of Orange, never knew there was a city by that name. See all the stuff you learn on PN :-) The only thing I would do here is darken the awning in the upper left to cut out the reflection. I love cappucinos too! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted November 3, 2005 KIM!! I didn't even notice the shine on the awning on the left. What an eye!! Thanks for your comment!! :-) Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted November 6, 2005 I think that it doesn't work very well because the attention is taking on too much at once and there is nothing really outstanding to see. You would have to search for a particular object or scene around which you could compose your photo. Regards, Henri. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted November 6, 2005 Thanks, Henri! That's exactly the advice I needed to hear. I was just taking pictures of whatever stimulated my eyes, basically. I loved looking down this street ... but didn't think about looking for some specific thing around which to base my composition. Thanks!!! :-) Link to comment
