I always thought I could have done a better job, up there on the tarns

in front of Aoraki-Mt.Cook...

What would you change here? Your advice is warmly welcome.

I really like it, Salvatore. A great mix of contrasts. The only thing that seems to be unsatisfying is the grass in the foreground. I want more of it, maybe by lowering the height a little, but not sure what that would do to the rest of the composition. The browns and texture of the grass works great with the greens, the rock on the shore is perfectly placed, and the ripples vs calm water surfaces are interesting, makes you feel like you're in shelter, but moving out of this little spot will bring you back into the elements.

Very relaxing, just left wanting some more pattern or direction in the grasses, since there's already some there, but they're not very strong.

Actually, scrap that. Not so sure more grass would be a good idea. It might disrupt the balance. I'm confused. Let's just leave it as is. Its calm.

Hello Salvatore.I am confused with this image and am not quite sure where I stand yet.I am bothered by the off balance of the exposure values..almost like you have two separate images on the upper and lower half of your composition..left side rich with tones and detail..right side devoid of any real interest.

At first glance my eyes are drawn directly to the snow covered peaks but when I search for an anchor in the bottom right to drive the eyes back up I find them just trailing off into oblivion.I think what this composition needs is the large boulder in the lower right to be highlited with a bit of warmth which would give the foreground a reason to be included.I think overall your compositional values work well but just too much shadow area to keep my interest Salvatore.

Nice landscapre, however IMHO i find the foreground much darker than the rest of the photo which is a bi disturbing, great job though, regards!

Considering the EV range here and the balance between the dark and light areas, you did well on the exposure Salvatore.

I like the composition, but I feel that the grass part in the right is too heavy with little detail, like you can't easily read into it, but your eyes are attracted and then can't easily escape, ruining the dynamism of your composition.
I think it is a problem of lighting, a softer lower light would have reduced contrast and helped give the middle ground more importance.

hi Salvatore! I like this a lot - mountains are my thing you know :) What bothers me here is the light... while I generally darken my photos because I like the richness of it, this might be too dark. A lot of detail I would have liked to see is made murky here - like the algea. I like the grass though, and the composition has your usual flare - I just want more light! :)

Thanks to all of you who took the time to comment.

I guess you all have some good points, and putting them toghether makes it clear why this shot "does not work".

Indeed, the grass is either too little to be dominant or too much to be just an element to anchor the glance. In addition, the light being what it was, without PS'ing, there is not so much one can do and it comes too dark on the boulder while being too bring on the glacier.

What bothers me the most is that Aoraki, that is Mt.Cook, itself is far less interesting than the grass, the boulder and the rest.

Not a keeper... but for the time being I'll keep it on the site as all your comments are really educational.

Thanks again!
