This rocks were originally covered with coal. Many hundreds years ago, there is a fire that burned away the layer of coal, & through many years of sun, rain, wind, the colours of this rocks formed naturally.

A natural land formation with colours fm Red, brown, green, black, gray, white, thereby the name : Five Coloured City.

Your feedback most appreciated. Thks

You got a nice sky to complement the rocks. I think the proportion would be improved by cropping the top 1/8 of the sky getting rid of the upper band of cloud.

Cherlyn, thanks for the information. I've learned a lot from this series. This image is well composed and those colorful rocks are just fascinating. Reminds me some rock formations that I saw in Zion and Bryce.

Dear all, I was also fascinated by the formation. The description I gave is very brief as I couldn't get more info. So I translate the best I can from what the tour guide told us & also what little I get from book.

Thanks for viewing, comments & ratings. :-)

Wonderful impression of a beautiful by nature formed landscape. I love to see the different colours of the layers this landscape excists. The earth colours stands out great against the magnificent sky. Greetings, Ada.

The colors so visible in this shot are incredibly beautiful. I think nature can show us every moment the greater artist she is. Excellent shot, Cherlyn.

Yes, this is beautiful! I thought it was Utah until I read your location.

China? Looks just like areas of the USA's Utah or Colorado or Arizona! Wonderful colors and details... outstanding scenery. I also think I'd have a tendency to crop out some of the sky, removing the uppermost cloud banding. Beautiful photograph, nicely captured!!!
