The light catching the autumn colours on the forest floor caught my eye and this was

the best shot of the lot. I wondered about cropping some of the foreground but I

don't like to do that too much so left it as is to show off the colours of the ferns in

the light (especially in the bottom right). I liked the mist between the trees too.

Shortly after this a large stag appeared - didn't manage to get him on film though

unfortunately! Any comments appreciated (please see larger image for best view)

Unfortunate indeed! That stag would have made your image maybe mystical. I guess that's why you declared that your preference is to photograph things that don't move fast, or something like that. I think I would keep the image and not cropping due to the reasons you've made; nice touches of light. The white in the upper middle is somewhat distracting; I may crop the top area instead. Nice colors and good mood with the mist.

Great scene -- I like it. I agree with Thai; I'd crop the white light on the top, but keep all of the foreground. I wish it were possible to get just a bit more detail in the ferns.

Thanks for your comments guys. Thai, I like the suggestion of cropping the top - somehow I hadn't even considered that and you're right about the bright patch. Stephen, I know what you mean about the ferns. It's not the first time I've noticed this problem with ferns and I haven't quite figured out whether it's movement (due to more of a breeze than I recall) or the limitations of the sensor in my G6. Any thoughts on that?

Great scene Daryl. I too would also crop top white but it does show nicely where the light is coming from. Maybe some dodging bottom left, show us some more ferns. Oh how a stag huffing breath in the misty air would have a nice effect. Good shootin'
