Most have now been torn down, making way for huge, corporate concrete

monuments to capitalism. Those that remain remind the prairie

landscape of a time not so long ago when the wooden grain elevator

ruled the west. The communities that maintain these quiet giants look

back with a sense of pride on their past, as they strugle through the

present and pray for their children's future.
