Together with my son I covered the Solar Eclipse May 31, 2003, using 3

cameras shooting in UV, IR, and visible light, all equipped with

various mirror lenses. We shot about 600 images during the first half

of the Eclipse before clouds impacted the event. Three out of these

images, all from the visible band camera, had strange reflection

patterns to them, such as shown here. I have lifted the shadow area

ever so slightly to better show the detail, but otherwise the photo is

as captured by the camera.

Bjorn, thanks for sharing this remarkable image. I especially appreciate the explanation. You have one of the most interesting and important photography websites on the internet. You certainly don't need photo.net, but I am glad you are posting here because it allows an informal give and take and also increases exposure for your work (even if some viewers don't have the good sense to appreciate it). At the very least, this proves the uselesness of ratings at photo.net. Bob

What a powerful image! Very unique capture for this phenomenon. You mentioned that you used IR film for some of your exposures. Was this Kodak Colour IR? I have not had good sucess with solar photography utilizing this film. What are your suggestions? Also , please tell what type of solar filter you used.

Indeed this is such a powerful image, as far as subject matter is concerned; it is both documentary and artistic at the same time.

Very well done!

I also concur with the other commentators, low ratings mean absolutely nothing on photo.net. I never use them as I prefer to comment. Some have commented on my work using ratings but including them in the comment section. I have gotten a 6/6 in the comment section from a very gracious patron. I would rate this a 7/7; this is the highest rating.

I agree with Mr. Hillman, this photo proves the uselessness of ratings on this site. Why anyone would give this photo a 3 in any category is way beyond me. Definitely a unique and interesting photo.

The sun generates life, including the cry of a newborn baby entering his or her strange world. Chance is much in photography and you have had the good eye to see and capture it. Bravo!
