And, yes Joan, the detail is so good because I was maybe only 3 feet away from this fine bird. He was so busy, completely unaware I was so close. It was not until some one yelled something at me that he became more aware of my presence. I was happy to have come this close. We had a pilated woodpecker in a tree on our property that had to be removed after the woodpecker worked on it. Apparently, the tree was bad but we weren't aware of it. We weren't home when he did his work.
