Exposure was 1 minute at f32. I took the reading using a 15 degree spot on the falls. Bogen 3236 tripod. Levels adjusted in Ektaspace using Photoshop CS.

Really lovely Walter. I can imagine the rustic forest fragrance and shimmering water falling. Lucky you to be able to go there.

You certainly managed to extract all the shadow detail from this scene and this is not an easy chore with RVP. I've seen this falls done by others, but never with results that are this pleasing to the eyes.

I especially like the foreground greenery--an attractive border for the rest of the scene. Even though the falls is somewhat centered, the bottom greenery makes it look like it isn't. The reflection off from the rock face is a nice touch too.

I hope you keep the new camera--I think it likes you :o)

great composition....what does the Crown Graphic offer you that exceeds the Pentax 6x7?

by the way, which is heavier?

Thanks Dave and Bill!

If you do not count the Graphic's film backs or holders, the Big Pup (6x7) is heavier, mostly because of the lens. With the Graphic I have the option for a bigger print. Also, I am able to shoot 6x9 with the Graphic using a Cambo C2N back, this is something that I wanted to explore. The bellows are nice, too, and I am having a lot of fun with the "Retro" feel of this thing. But so far, I still think the Pentax wins out in the convenience department. I had to have a friend scan this 4x5 for me since my scanner will only go up to 6x9. Also the film and processing are rather expensive in 4x5. The sharpness in my Pentax lenses is also quite remarkable, especially the 55mm. So, Bill, the jury is still out on this one. Regards.

Walter, nice work with your new 4X5 camera. I love the wooded scene and the falls are beautiful. We are vacationing in Maine at the moment; hope to come back with lots of new material. Cheers, Sondra

Thanks Sondra! I am looking forward to your Maine photographs. That is a location that I have always wanted to visit but as of yet have not done so. Regards.

Walter, this is probably not your most dramatic image but it has some subtle qualities about it that make it a very good image. The falls, somewhat centered, actually place more emphasis on the surrounding vegetation and woods.

I hate to think that you would hang your ?Pup? up for the 4x5 but I?m interested in seeing what you have in store for those of us who admire your work.

Congrats on a fine image, I look forward to seeing some more of your 4X5 stuff.

Thanks Sean for the comment. Never fear, the 6x7 will remain alive and well. Regards.

Nicely done, Walter. The greenery in the front adds the right framing.

Sondra, if you read this, I'm from Maine. Where are you going up there? We were there for a couple of weeks this summer. I have a "Maine Stuff" folder in my portfolio, but I'm always too busy when I'm there to reserve time for photography. Maybe next year. Cheers.

Lovely photo.I originally thought that it was a spring shot, the greens are so nice and fresh. You can hardly tell it's fall there.

Beautiful! The easiest and least costly way to get high-quality digital scans is with 4x5 and Fuji or Kodak chromes. It certainly makes photo editors sit up and take notice! I am a retired stock picture agency owner, so this is my professional opinion and advice.

Walter, Again, terrific ! It's the gentle way the water is rolling over the edge that sets a mood. The shutter speed used is fast enough to evoke some texture at the fall. My point being, I've seen works, where the shutter speeds are so slow, that water no longer looks like water, it looks like steam. Again simplicity wins! Thanks.
