siyeouki 0 Posted October 13, 2005 Excellent b&w landscape. Reminds me of "Errance" a book by the french photographer Raymond Depardon. Good work! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 13, 2005 The placement of the horizon and the road work quite well to augment a sense of lonliness implied by the empty road and blank sky. Nicely done. Link to comment
jwcounts 0 Posted October 14, 2005 Actually, I think I like this one better than the color version. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 14, 2005 The B&W version is immensely more expressive than the colour one: I think the latter is too bright to give the message I get here. Here I have shapes which nicely work together to give the harsh landscape below a big sky, and the fence is compositionally very nice in "connecting" the area of the road and the foreground below the rock. When I see this in colour, the contrast between warmth and the blue sky is such to overwhelm the equilibrium of the composition. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 14, 2005 Wow, I hadn't even noticed the color version. Perhaps it wasn't yet posted. B&W works much better for me. The color betrays the mood. Also, the single tone helps unify the compositional elements. The color version is a bit too cheerie for the minimalist landscape and the lonely road so elegantly presented monochromatically. AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted October 15, 2005 I'm with Laurie - I don't remember there being a mono version, either. My first impression of the former was: "wow, he's really making us work for it, now." My second was: "where's the trademark toned version?" Glad to see it, and see that it works well. cheers, Aaron Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted January 5, 2006 Robert, I'll join the que favouring this B&W version. One reason this stands out above the colour version is because of your presentation, a simple, tasteful, minimal framing choice. Since the only significant difference between the two is colour why does this one simply look better? I think it is because it's reduced to it's graphic essentials of tones, textures, and shapes. I can't explain why but the large mass of bland, boring sky just seems to work better for me without the colour. Just reminds me; I must replace my 2005 Ansel Adams calandar with new one. Best, LM.
