glenn mellen 0 Posted October 9, 2005 Sondra - Now you've hit a real soft spot of mine... steam engines! This one is very nicely presented. Where is this train located? Think I'd have a tendency to crop the bottom some on this one... ridding it of the slightly out of depth of field tracks in the immediate foreground, and creating more of a square image of this one. I have a few steam engines in my Gallery here, and more on my family's photography site: www.SceneChasers.com in the Americana Gallery. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted October 9, 2005 Ohh, Sondra, What a truely great piece of nostalgia. One of the finest steam engine photos I've ever come across.....Jim Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 9, 2005 It's a wonderfull shot, moody, beautifull, well balanced.Secondary:artefact = an item crafted by a humanarteform = a shape created by a humanart = something expressive or interfering created by a human (the artist)Here the scenery is made by mother nature, the train is designed by a brainy designer and the photo is a beautifull document of those. Therefore this should definitely fall into the category "cars and vehicles". I don't think the value of a photo is diminished by putting it into the correct category.... Or if it does, the viewer should ask himself some questions. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 9, 2005 Sondra, that must be a museum piece....where did you find it? very nicely presented . Pnina Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted October 9, 2005 A fine shot, the medium telephoto gives it a nice 'presence' and the tracks lead into the shot well. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted October 9, 2005 This steam engine is from the Strasburg RR, southeast of Lancaster, PA. We followed it through the countryside until we found a good crossing for the photo. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted October 9, 2005 "I see the train a comin', it's rollin' round the bend, and I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when......". This image seems to fit that ol' ballad by Johnny Cash so well. Just to see how it would look I cropped the bottom (out of focus part) of the tracks out and it made it look like the photographer must of been standing on the tracks and in great peril. Nice "choo choo" picture. Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted October 10, 2005 Nice shot! Nice composition. I like all the tracks in front. It sounds like you spent some time getting just the right shot. Well done! Link to comment

john_weaver1 0 Posted December 29, 2005 Having enjoyed your recent 'bridge' shot, I thought it time to look at your work... this is excellent - I've seen a million steam photos and this is good. I agree with the comment to crop from the bottom, loosing two fishplate in both rails perhaps. This begs the question: why not more sky - where is the snoke going? (etc) Link to comment
randy_bray 0 Posted January 2, 2006 Hi Sondra, I really like this image of the Strasburg RR. Carol and I were on it in the summer of 2004. I really like the way you did the shot, the curve in the track is especially appealing, something else that looks good is an "S" curve whether it be a Rail line, road or path, it's just eye catching. Well Done ! Carol and I are planning to be in PA again in the Fall of 2006 with a week long trip to Vermont added in, can't wait. Keep shooting, you're doing great. Link to comment
