salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 4, 2005 ...then you might want to hit large or check out two other shots taken from this magnificent spot, here and here. The red arrow shows you where this was taken, 3400 meters above sea level, 800 meters above the ground, and 5 meters above the cloud! salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 4, 2005 I know, it's dead-centered, and has a plane trace criss-crossing, noforeground and no scale... all in all is pretty banal a picture, isn't it? I need your comments on this one! Thanks, s. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted October 4, 2005 Personally Salvatore, I like this photo. The clouds are in the foreground and this gives one a sense of height and beauty. It would be easy to remove the white contrails. Cheers, Sondra Link to comment
treeffe 0 Posted October 5, 2005 I'm with Sondra, the clouds add great depth to this picture, the scenery is overwealming. I'm amazed by mountains view like this one. Curious particular the cross in the sky on the left. Best regards Fabio Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 6, 2005 I personally feel the lack of a solid foreground to be a tad siturbing, while on the other hand having the clouds starting from the bottom of the photo give a sense of flying. The light is too harsh for my taste, but since this was shot from a sharp peak, you could not wait up there the sun to descend, or could you? Bivuac on the summit? Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 10, 2005 Thanks to all of you for your comments and support. I find it curious that some like the cross in the sky, which I sort of disliked. I shall in the future try to give these ariplane traces a stronger compositional value. As for the lack of a foreground, Luca, you are of course right. In this case, there was nothing I could use as a foreground, since I had not even the space to sit and extend my leg in front of the camera, as I did slightly later. At least I am glad you liked the effect of the clouds. As for a bivac up there, the rest of the party would not have agreed to do it just for picture's sake... maybe one should organise photo.net mountain outings where we climb in the night to be always at the summits at sunrise! That would be cool...! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 11, 2005 That's an interesting idea, which I will immediately follow, since all my outings are restricted to normal hours, while I'd like to stay up 'til the light is perfect. Why don't we start organizing some simple ascents just for photographic purposes? Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 11, 2005 We should find some targets, for the newly-born PNAC, where summit bivac or night ascensions with tripods and equipment would not be a problem, technically accessible to less-experienced members and the view should be outstanding.Possible ideas in the Mont Blanc massif around Chamonix could include:A night in a tent on the Glacier du Geant, traversing from Italy to France or viceversa.Bivac on the Buet, in front of the Aig. Rouges and the Mt.Blanc massif. Flat top. Fine without wind. Hell with. Tough to get to in one day with all gear, though.Early-light ascension of the Aig.du Belvedere, again in front of the Mt.Blanc massif, with a bivac/tent just below the climb.Just the cable car up the Brevent and spend the night there, also in front of Mt.Blanc to get sunset and sunrise...but the place is ugly.Of course, all of the above are officially forbidden... A through review of Swiss huts offering great view could also be an option, having a more comfortable night, living with their attitude to serve dinner exactly at sunset. There is quite some time to get organised before next summer! Guest Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Salvatore, What I like most about this image is the way the view through the clouds looks almost like a reflection in water. While the contrails are a little unfortunate, they don't spoil the photo. How wonderful to shoot from above the clouds! Link to comment
