ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 27, 2005 Portrait of a lace-worker; I saw this lady sitting in the doorway of a house in Brugge (Belgium). She was very concentrated to show an old profession for which Brugge was very famous in the past, namely the bobbin lace. I appreciate your constructive critiques. Thank you very much, Ada. ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 27, 2005 Hi Tony, it's great to hear you like my picture and it was a surpise to see your version of the laceworker. And I saw that you took some more pictures in Brugge. It's a beautiful city, isn't it? Especially to visit it in this time of the year. Thanks Ken for your kind words. I'm always curious to your opinion:) Hi Wim, thanks for visiting me. Great to hear you like this portrait. Brugge! Have you ever been there? It's a paradise for photographers and painters. There is so much beauty there and not only old buildings:0) Perhaps we can make an appointment for a visit?? The Belgium Beer tasted also very good in Brugge! Link to comment

bram meijer 0 Posted September 30, 2005 Maar die droeg Scheveningse dracht, maar kloste ook kant. Ik heb er nog van... ergens. Even opduikelen. Heerlijke foto, mooie herinneringen. Bram Link to comment

ada-ipenburg 0 Posted October 8, 2005 thank you very much for taking a look at my lace worker. I'm glad you like the portrait I made from her. Greetings, Ada:) Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted October 8, 2005 Hi Michael, I'm happy you like the portrait and I really appreciate the job you did. I like your B&W version in which you brighten up the background a bit. In the contrast to that I made the background dark in top of the picture to pay extra attention to the white bonnet the woman wears. I know you are a lover of black and white portraits and I think that in many cases B&W gives much more drama to a portrait. In this particular case where the woman is wearing the traditional costume, I think I prefer a portrait in colours because I love the fresh radiation of it and I think it gives a more authentic impression of how the lace workers looked in the past. But of course that?s a very personal taste. I like the way you've cropped the portrait because it emphasizes extra attention to what the woman is doing. I've also done a several attempts to crop before I decided to the final version which I've posted. In the original picture the woman is in view from head to foot and that is also interesting. I think if I show the original to you, you will certainly come with many other cropped versions, dear Michael:). Perhaps I am going to post it too. I'll let you know! At any rate, I always like your suggestions Michael and your friendly manner of 'help think' (I hope this is well said in English). Many greetings, Ada:) Link to comment

ada-ipenburg 0 Posted October 22, 2005 Thank you both very much for commenting this portrait. Well Sally, I asked the woman if I was allowed to talk to her while she was at work and she answered me that she needs to concentrate herself because of the lace work. Particular if there are difficult patterns in it. But she was a very kind woman and she made wonderful and very fine lace work. Greetings to both of you, Ada:) Link to comment
