maria 7 Posted September 25, 2005 The peninsula of Halkidiki, south of Thessaloniki (Greece) ends with two elongated peninsulas, one of them, Mount Athos enjoying a special status. Women are not admited as visitors there, but tourism agencies organise ship cruising along, at permitted distance. The trip ends with going to land at Ouranopolis, which marks the frontier to the administrative unit of Mount Athos. The picture features Ouranopolis seen from the sea.
