Robin Hood's Bay on the NE coast of England is a wide rocky bay with

a small fishing village (shown here) at one end. It was rainy and

sunshine when I took this so I was trying to catch the light on the

buildings and the rainy look as well. The image is a manually merged

version of four shots. The PS treatment was inspired by the famous

local photographer, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, who worked around the

1900 period. All comments welcome!

it's a good composition, but looks like to mutch work in Photo shop or other. And the center is a bit confusing....

but in general is 5/7 if less distortion 6/7

do you agree?

Best regards,

Cesar, thanks for your comment. I agree the centre is confused because of the boats blocking the view along the road but I could not move them :-). How much PS and the result is a matter of taste - I like it how it is but please feel free to think otherwise!

Colin,A perfect picture again,it captures a whole area.I like the center with the hotel from there you adventure either direction and everything holds up together.Beautiful sea mood, the man with the cape towards the left, fits too.

I don't know Robin Hood's Bay, I don't know Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, but I know that I prefer your photo than his. The view point is really well chosen and it gives a great impact to the composition. The light is good and gives nice neutral colours as if it were in sepia. This is one of your photos I prefer.

I had to read your introduction, Colin, because I was sure this was a painting. What a view and what light you captured. I have never seen this place, buit you make me want to go there. Excellent.

Very interesting and a lot going on indeed! Love the effect you used and the different levels of saturation are very effective. It looks like a lot of work!

Thanks Tomaso, Alexandra, Henri, Paula, Kim, and martino! The PS treatment was mostly because the colour didn't quite work imo and I wanted the completed shot to make the buildings look more huddled together.

Yeah, its a little more PS than I'd like, and yes, the boats disrubt the flow of the road, but I don't really care. Its weird and I like it! The person caught midstride at the end of the double yellow lines is fascinating, the spread of their coat... running? The squashed looked of the people on the left and something about their pose makes me think they're drunken yobs( :-) ), and the different generations on the beach... all interesting details to pick up. Is that someone at the hotel window, with their arm up to shield the eyes and cut down reflections? Maybe checking out the lunch special.

And I like the subdued colours + B&W. A few flaws, but maybe that just draws attention to the people. Is that an old lawnmower by the railing?

Stephen, thanks, I think the guy with the cape and the 'yobs' etc were all running for cover from the rain while the hardy families stayed on the beach and got wet. The guy you spotted is getting a souvenir for himself of the 'Coast to Coast' walk so maybe he walked it.

Not a lawnmower but a boat trailer I suspect!

The center is a bit busy because of the boat, but it is an interesting image. The light, the rain, the people on the beach , all the atmospher and the colors are resulting in a fine composition that is an eye catch. well done Colin, Pnina

Colin, here is the thing. I always recognize your work. its of a very distinctive, very authoritative, very appealing style. somehow, you are able to create tones and colors that are muted without being dull, they have an elegant authority to them, your perspectives and choices of subject matter are fresh and special. this is another in this great portfolio you are developing. busy, maybe, photoshopped, maybe. but at first glance, and last glance, it is very special work.

Hello Colin, it's another masterpiece and I like it a lot.

The pronounced wide andle effect reminds me of Pieter Bruegel's landscape with the fall of Icarus.

Best wishes. Peter

Colin, I think you've managed to capture Robin Hoods bay wonderfully here, you've managed to open up what is in fact a _very_ confined space into something much grander. Well done.

Pnina, Ben, Peter, Ben, thanks!

Ben, You'll just have to get your seven's in before me then won't you? :-))

Peter, I love that picture of poor little Icarus splashing down with NOBODY NOTICING! Life carries on as normal all around.

Ben, you are right the place is very crowded in upon itself hence the need for a composite of 4 wide angle shots to get the whole thing. It was taken from the Old Coastguard Station.

Colin, I like the composition combining the town and the seashore in one image. A terrific piece of life you've captured - that which is taking place by the shore mostly. I have to say, Ben's comments are just priceless! and of course I am referring to the second one.

Colin, very interesting composition, with lots to see in all parts of the photo. I also like the melange of color and b/w. All in all only positive impressions here... Jiri
